Did you just compare me to the woman?

Maybe others can help you. I would not ask for clarification.
Thanks for this!

I agree, stopdog. Favorite color for what? I love yellow sunflowers but do not wear yellow. No one wants to hear that my favorite color on that particular day is the color of blue sky in January or light on water.

I don't ask for clarification unless I'm engaged in a task that includes choosing a color for something that matters. They are usually just making conversation and want the name of a color. I say purple and move on. I don't especially like or dislike purple more or less than any other color, but it's a thing to say. Purple is a nice enough color.

You are an amazing person. I'm sorry it didn't work the way you were hoping.

Major panic over. My daughters dog found a cane toad in the swamp that is my front yard i managed to grab him and pull him away but just as i got to the back door he slipped his collar and went after the toad after 5 minutes of my other daughter and i trying to distract him i finally got his collar back on. I really hate killing anything but a dog dying of toad poison is not nice. It was a large toad one of the biggest i have seen.

It seems our furnace died last night. The thermostat had this warning on it when I checked early this morning saying it had been sending signals to the heater, but it hadn't come on. H tried resetting the heater this morning (I couldn't find reset button before he was up), kicked on very loudly for a few seconds, didn't produce any heat, then back off. Sigh... Currently waiting (in multiple layers) for a guy to come out and check on it. Hoping it just needs a part replaced, not the whole thing. It's supposed to be much warmer tomorrow here, but it's really cold outside this morning.

Favorite food for dinner could be different than favorite fruit, so to say X is my favorite doesn't exist in a vacuum. It is not just favorites - it happens in a lot of areas.
I ran into this all the time when I dealt with the woman. She never understood.
It comes up with other people as well and I was recently told by yet another person that they don't understand how I think/they don't think like I do. The woman said that to me once as well when I was trying to explain something and she just looked at me and said her brain did not work like mine did - so I was wondering if it came up for other people as well.

I could see Dr. T responding like you do to people for those sorts of questions.

For me, I just give some sort of answer. Like the backup T I saw Tuesday, she asked me (for a thought exercise) what my favorite food was. I was like, "Uh...let's go with pizza." For color, I tend to just say "blue." I used to always say green, then at some point realized that my car was blue and lots of my wardrobe is blue, so maybe that's actually my favorite color.

Also, my H is getting over a cold and keeps coughing, and my D keeps yelling at him to stop coughing, then asks me to help, and I'm like, "He can't control his coughing." Sigh...

For me, it is not so much whether the questioner cares-although why would they ask the question if it doesn't matter? More it is that it is wrong - the answer I have given may not be not correct. The lack of precision or specificity or recognition of such in the question/questioner is distressing as well. It is that kind of loosey-goosey questioning that creates chaos and sloppiness and wrong information. And hippies. I dislike providing the wrong information. I don't know what question I am being asked.

I keep going back to once the woman asked me if I trusted her and I responded "trust you to do what?" and she laughed at me and said she didn't know what I meant - I either trusted her or I didn't. I was actually speechless in trying to respond to that - it was so wrong in so many ways it was like I couldn't sort through the reasons and levels fast enough to coherently rebut such an insane statement.

I went to a day yoga retreat yesterday and it was not my thing AT ALL. I mean the yoga part was good, being in a secluded spot writing was good, But when we were listening to meditation stories in a circle it was not me.

Yay, our heat is fixed! It was apparently a burnt [something] nozzle, so don't need to get a whole new unit.

But you’re her favorite hippie.

At dinnertime.

If you are wearing blue socks.

And a button-down shirt.

I do like button down shirts. And navy blue socks. Not some wacky cerulean or cobalt. Teal and cornflower socks are too horrifying to even contemplate.

The woman kept trying to turn me into some sort of tie-dye wearing, openly weeping, kumbaya singing, hugging, hand-holding hippie.
I think the most shocking thing I remember her saying was that she saw herself as an earth mother. Picture Judge Judy and Dr. Ruth combined but without the warmth -then as an earth mother and you would have the horrifying picture of the woman as an earth mother. I still shudder.

I also rarely wear socks. Except today when we had no heat, I did...I also tend not to wear any in the house that don’t have nonslip bottoms due to an unfortunate incident on our hardwood stairs like 12 years ago.

BCM, are cane toads even native to where you are? I could be wrong, but I think they are an invasive species in your location. I admit I was ready to get on my high horse and be preachy about how I don't kill copperheads even though I'm terrified one will kill my dogs because they are an important part of the ecosystem and killing one won't eliminate the threat. However, you killed two birds with one stone if you took out that cane toad because unfortunately, it's only native to South and Central America and is an invasive species in other places where they've had a devastating impact on biodiversity.

That's unfortunate about your front yard being swampy. This might sound drastic, but you might want to consider getting a basket muzzle to put on the dog when he goes outside just to be safe.
