That sounds scary. Glad you finally went to the ER, just wish it didn't take you passing out to get there.

I lived next door to some shriekers for a while. I think their parents never talked to them, so it was scream scream scream all the time. There might have been some embarrassment there because they were recent Eastern European immigrants, probably one of few on the block. But it was horrible. I understand the issue - my parents thought i was born knowing English since i was born here. But very young children are amazingly bilingual.

I think I know why they stuck him outside. Maybe he'll tire out soon or get laryngitis.

I don't hate kids. I heard them a while back playing hide and seek and thought it was cute. This one's just grating on my nerves today.

I'm having a terrible day and wish I had someone I could trust to hug me and tell me everything will be okay.

Trigger for threats.
Possible trigger:

I left for 30 minutes for a drive while H kept texting me and said he had nothing to do with it. Which I guess he didn't but his presence hasn't helped.

And the moderator just yelled at us for asking questions about *faculty*, not *students*. Well, duh. We have health too.

I've contacted the ADA office last week and asked to be exempted from teaching in-person for my small courses because everyone will be wearing masks and I won't be able to hear. No masks on Zoom and I can get a captioning program if I need it. Haven't heard back yet.
We just got the "masks at all times" announcement - let's make it so the professor and the students are stupidly uncomfortable for 90 min (my classes are 90 min 2 times a week) to help with learning.

That shrieking feels like attention seeking behavior to me, and i would be myself screaming, "talk to your kid!" They obviously are trying to vocalize something. But the parents are oblivious.

Wait'll you get the "faculty are in charge of staggering attendance for classes but they can't do it by anything obvious like names because FERPA and any regard to the student's schedule in other staggered classes" announcement.

I learned in my sociology class that the wealthy are less likely to show empathy. This is also true of college administrators, the academic equivalent of "wealthy."

Pick randomly sounds like a good option, then let them do one-for-one trades with other students to fit their schedules?

We got permission to wear face shields Couch 216: The Baseball Couch instead of masks so students could still see our lips moving and we could move around the classroom and not have to stand stock still behind a podium. I'm counting it as a win.

We want face shields here or see-through masks but it’s a no so far.

Ugh, my D's school board is meeting right now to discuss possible options for fall (broadcasting online). Right now they're proposing in-person 2 days a week for elementary, distance the other 3 days (to make in-person class sizes smaller). Middle and high school, all virtual. (Dr. T's son is in middle school in the same county, incidentally.) They apparently have to give a recommendation by July 9, though some of it will be up to the state, I think. Sigh... I'm going to stop listening, I think, as this is stressing me out... I'm hoping, too, that this is the plan for fall, and it would have the potential to go back to normal in the spring?

Aw, thanks for sharing! You look neither ugly nor freaky--gorgeous hair! My hair when I was 12 was an atrocity...perhaps I'll attempt to dig out a photo at some point.

I hope so too, LT. I'm obviously in another country, but we were already on borrowed time in our current premises.
Wish the pandemic would go whistle.

Aww, you were totally cute! When I was that age I had braces and wore glasses that were way too big and was all gangly and awkward. I hated 12. It's when I first recall feeling suicidal. It's a hard age.

My anxiety issues started at around 12 as well, I think in part due to my mom having cancer (she survived). Some of it showed as really bad separation anxiety. I agree that it's a difficult age.

My issues started around age nine. I don't remember 12 being more difficult than nine. 14 was. I was in a terrible depression--only I didn't know what that was. I wish someone would have pulled me aside and asked if I was okay. I might have broken down and said that I wasn't. But maybe not. I didn't even know enough then to know that I wasn't okay.

Thanks! After that my pictures start looking worse. I got a lot of that hair cut off right before 9th grade and in the 9th grade pic I look like I was stoned or crying or more likely, both. Beginning in 7th-8th grade I think is when I really started having problems. In grade school I was just shy and awkward but the self-hatred hadn't progressed as far yet as it did in jr high. That's enough sadness for today. Back to happier things! I need a new pic of Penelope.

Thanks. My hair is still just as thick as in this pic, too bad it's not blond like that anymore!! haha i have a lot of gray now. Y'know I have always liked the color of my eyes. Even when I felt like a freak.
