Yup, animal sacrifices. The cow even has a pre-slit throat I can have “blood” gush out of and gilded horns. The goat is too cute to alter.

Of course I make the whole demonstration more intellectual than it sounds.

ETA: I thought they’d also lost my 17-foot Macedonian spear too, but they’d squirreled it in a corner.

I think I'm going to have to change my name to Artie in the 'real' world too... the memes calling certain types of women by my first name are getting worse!! I was talking to L about them last week and she claimed she hadn't seen any of them and I was like how could you not they're everywhere lately.... i can't even complain about them without being called one! i laughed it off at first but they're now implying racism and other worse things than just asking for a supervisor so it's time for them to stop, i say!

That sounds messy. Never had live theater in my college courses.

Artie - i could see my t playing dumb like that too! "What? The sky is BLUE?!" But dear, you are seriously the LEAST "blue" person i have ever known. You always put the other person first, even if to your own detriment.

L might suffer from the same affliction as Liz, which is not spending nearly enough time on the internet. I once had to explain the phrase "b***h eating crackers" to her, which really lessened the emotional impact of what I was saying.

I so hope you claimed these items as work expenses on your taxes just for the chance to be challenged and get to explain them to an IRS agent.

I would not have known that one.
I only know the karen one because I have a colleague who was complaining about it (it is her name) and she explained to me what she was talking about because I had no idea.

Probably... she has said several times that she 'doesn't do facebook'.

If it helps any, I know a Karin, spelled a little differently obviously, and I have never once thought of that meme and her in the same thought. I'm sorry you're having to deal with that though. I've often wondered how people with that name are dealing with this, especially because it's gotten used more often now.

The goat reminders me of my old friend who is a manager and she uses a stuffed goat called grumpy gaot for her employees to ***** to as she has found they are more likely to say honest things to the goat than to her directly.

we got an email at work today that they're requiring us to download an app to our personal cell phones that's a covid status/tracker kind of a thing and we have to log onto it every day. some of my teammates are really upset about it and yelling they can't require that unless they are paying for my cell phone, etc. I dunno. I haven't said anything much about it yet til we get more details. Like exactly what and how it's going to track us and things. Sounds a bit big-brother-ish but at this point I'm not really in the mood to find a new job, either.....

I work for the government. Our commissioner mentioned something similar but it hasn't happened yet. We would have to certify that we don't have a temperature or any symptoms before we would be allowed to sign into our computers. I don't know if it's in the works or if it was scrapped. We did have to sign an agreement that coming to work sick will incur disciplinary action.

I guess I don't mind because I will be royally pissed off if someone brings it to the office and some of our at-risk employees might die from some selfish a-hole not wanting to use sick leave. Also I don't want to catch it.

So like she listens to them talking to the goat? Like “Hi, Tom, thanks for stopping by. Please talk to grumpy goat and ignore that I’m here”?

What fascinates me about Karen is that in the last 6-8 weeks the meaning has changed from “Gen X middle-aged woman who complains to the manager about the Gen Z worker, unfairly in the latter’s opinion” to “entitled white woman of any age who thinks she can behave badly and get away with it.”

My school is giving all students a smart thermometer and requiring them to use it every day.

Yep she said it works better than sitting front on with the person maybe less confronting.

So much of these workplace measures seem to be just for show. College aged asymptomatic carriers often never have a fever. I think it's more about the appearance of accountability for the business, and maybe instilling the pretense of responsibility in students. I think a lot of workplaces are using the apps for legal reasons, but if you work remotely, it doesn't seem to make much practical sense. But it does shift the burden from the company to be accountable for your state of health to the employee, so maybe it gets them off the hook legally. Immunity for businesses seems to be a big deal on the political side. A lot of universities are asking students to sign waivers holding them harmless if they get sick; probably not legally binding, but they're trying!
Thanks for this!

So one of my guilty pleasures is watching public freakouts on YouTube and I think that a Karen can be anyone, regardless of race, or even gender. It’s just a way to label entitlement.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention my Karen. My therapist encouraged me to personalize my inner critic, so I named her Karen. Because I’m kind of a b**** to myself.

The really weird thing about it is that us permanent work at homes (who do not go into the office ever) will have to do it every day too.

The state which has had the biggest outbreak is introducing 6 months jail time and $11000 fines for breaking of the covid laws. I hope it is enforced not like in the beginning when they jutbwarned people.
