there's been an accident at home.. my father is being taken to the city by ambulance.. it's a loong long way and there is a good hospital closer so all i know is that it is serious.

thank you. My phone died and needed recharging so i couldn't find out anything. But i talked to my family and they said he had broken the upper part of his leg bone close to the hip. He is being taken to the city because the local hospital does not have the right type of ortho surgeon. They don't know if they can repair the bone yet or if it will mean plates or whatever.. i dont know. He is on route to city but it is a long drive. Family is running around, everyone upset, trying to get to the city too. i live very far away.

he was in a lot of pain but they have him on demerol and morphine.

thats all i know

he is surgery this morning.. we had trouble locating him last night because of a name mix up but we finally found him... weren't able to talk to him bc he was heavily sedated. They said they were giving him good pain control. My mom and sister are on their way to the city today, it was too dangerous to go yesterday - snow storm. i dont' know how the ambulance made it but they did. Maybe they have better tires or chains or something.

i won't know anything now until tonight prolly... cant reach mom by cell while shes in the hospital bldg.

what makes me worry is his ability after this... if he loses mobility it will killl him, he'll die inside. He likes to bicycle and walk a lot. He's always on the move. Likes spending time in the woods and stuff.

perna, he is 72. i dont think its osteo or they wouldn't consider hip replacement... which they have talked about. i hope for that really bc he would regain mobility and sooner.

i feel sick thinking about his accident... he was on his way to church, stopped to go filll their bird feeders and took a fal on ice... no one knew he was hurt.. mom thought he had left for church. He was laying outside in a snow storm, helpless. It just kills me... makes me cry. He could have died from shock.

spent all day yesterday sobbing and pacing. called T and left a message.. i see him in a couple of hours.

thank you all so much for caring... please keep the vigil for now.. until i know he's ok... hoping he will not be limited long term.

i hadn't posted to this because the whole ordeal has been a roller coaster.. i won't even go there, it's just been so frustrating and draining.

My dad has had his surgery but he is in ICU and has secretions on his lungs. He is on ventilation. They tell us that this isn't something we should panic about yet. i don't know what to think at this point. i just know that i can't talk to my father tonight.

i just wish this would be ok, be over and be ok. i am hanging... waiting to hear something which will give me a better idea of what the future will bring. i want to know if he will lose any long term mobility... will i need to go home to care for him... *deep sigh.

i'm not sobbing anymore. i am doing ok i guess but i am just too tired to sob.

keep the vigil guys... it's not over yet.

Lung fluid is pretty common after surgery I think; when my appendix burst they had a heck of a time with me, getting it out and pounding on my back (loads of fun just after surgery!). Hopefully the broken part of his leg will knit like new and the hip joint was just stressed or something.

We're still "holding" him, you and your family in our thoughts!
