That dance does allow partners to get up close and personal. Just be sure she’s not the lead dancer.

Trauma causes people to get out of touch with their bodies, so I think this is part of why I am bad at dancing and also hate it. Plus I was forced to take/guilted into dance classes as a child. I'm good at playing musical instruments, so it's not really about not having a sense of rhythm.

Jive is related to swing dancing, right? I took a class once with a "male" friend. It was like I couldn't get anything right--I was holding the instructor's hands too tightly; then I was holding them too loosely. When I just relaxed and danced with my friend (without trying to think about it), I had fun. I probably wasn't doing it right, but whatever.

Oh, and in elementary school, we did square dancing. They had me be the "caller" (calling out what move to do). At the time, it felt sort of like an honor, especially when we gave a performance at a local mall. In retrospect, it's probably because I sucked at dancing, so they were like, "OK, let's have you do this other thing."

Gilbert and Sullivan- Oh little dickey bird why do you sit singing willow tit willow tit willow. I like dancing. Waltz, jitterbug, square dancing, swing, contra dancing, clogging, etc. I doubt I am good at it but it is fun

I think this is exactly it. Over the past couple of years, I have done more work with my body (somatic therapy, cold water swimming, yoga stretches) and it has both highlighted how absent I am from my body but also how I enjoy it when I can become present. Hard though.

H and I had our first date night in years...and it was absolutely wonderful! First we stopped up for coffee and smoothies. Then we drove 45mins up to my favorite store. They have dragons and fairies and rocks and statues and incense, etc., etc! We bought too much, but it was awesome. I got a wolf snowglobe and a glass and wood candle holder. He got a dragon sculpture, a Skull and Hati statue, and a Fenrir statue. Then we went out to a nice dinner. We came home and watched two episodes of Shadow and Bone. Then we watched random tv together and went to bed. Seriously, one of the best days I've ever had.

Ugh, I woke up with a rather miserable head cold this morning. My head was so congested it felt like I couldn't lift if off the pillow. But, after hitting snooze twice (oops) I managed it and shuffled my way to my desk to start work at 6am (I'm on break now). Took cold meds and got logged in. Finally about an hour in I sneezed about 8 times in a row and I guess it broke loose the congestion cuz the headache is pretty much gone now, but I'll probably go through half a box of kleenex today!

In other news, we finally had a good monsoon-worthy thunderstorm last night, for about 30 minutes maybe the storm was directly above us and we were seeing constant lightning flashes behind the clouds. It was pretty cool. It was super windy too, and we had a tornado warning even, which is unusual for here. It was wild and woolly out there for a bit! We had a little bit of water accumulated in our backyard, but it wasn't too bad. We were waiting to see how well the grading and drainage stuff was done in our yard and it seems to be okay. I love thunderstorms. Funny, since I hate fireworks, but I love thunderstorms. Always have. As a kid whenever we had to go in the basement because of tornado warnings, I would always sneak upstairs to look out the window. I guess I wasn't very smart! But weather is fascinating.

I am so glad tonight is the beginning of another David Whyte series.

Been wanting a change lately - so I went and got my hair cut after work today. Got lots of layers and curtain bangs. I love it! My hair is SO much lighter now weight-wise, the waviness is totally back! I've missed that.

Heading back to the other coast after visiting the BF. It was so stupidly good to see him — it felt like I’d never left. I thought it’d be hard to leave, but it’s actually okay. Seeing him reassured me that we’re going to make this work.

I know about 6 friends who have had horrible summer colds/sinus infections. A couple were so bad they got covid tested even though we are all vaccinated. The tests came back negative -so just a bad cold/sinus infection

If you trust your brothers and sisters, is it possible to divide up an inheritance without involving any lawyers?

Depends on your country's Intestate Succession laws (if no will). If there's a will, my extended family did it without lawyers.

I found a box of mucinex sinus day/night I'd forgotten I had, and it's been helping a lot. I was already feeling better by the time I got off work yesterday, this is good stuff.

Today has been annoying so far. Got up early to get a swim in before teletherapy, but at the pool my swim cap tore in half, meaning Ihad to aquajog instead to protect my ears and hair, and it’s just not as good a workout. Then after I got out Info texted to say she had no internet and needed to reschedule—so much for getting up early.

I’m also annoyed that I’m not hearing back from journals about the story I sent out five weeks ago. Just one rejection so far, and I’d expect more by now since I sent it to ten total.

I needed a lawyer, but I'm in the US. My mother lived in Texas, and I live in Virginia; certain things needed to be filled, and a court appearance made, in Texas...so a lawyer was necessary for that. I was able to do the court appearance by phone but only because I had previously signed paperwork when I was physically in Texas to allow for that.

And she also owned property in Ohio, so to sell that property we needed another lawyer in Ohio.

But we Yanks are a litigious lot. YMMV. I was not worried about my siblings. It's just that if you want to sell the property, you need to make sure it has a clear title, and for that you must go through probate (is my understanding).

My mother did have a will.

Today, in Dr. T is an idiot news, we were talking about his return to seeing clients in person in his office starting July 26 (he'll be on vacation the week before). Talked about logistics, where I'll have to sit (not my usual seat, as it's too close--even though at another point he mentioned we were sharing the same air).

Then I said, "So obviously no handshake at the end, but I hope at some point you'll be willing to do that again, even if I have to bleach my hands first." Dr. T: "Did we used to shake hands? I can't remember." Me: "Uh, yes. Do you remember that whole conflict where I wanted you to stand up when I left, but you didn't want to?" Dr. T: "Yes, I remember the conflict, but I don't remember shaking hands being a part of it." Me: "Yeah, it was." (Pretty sure any of you who were on the forums then would remember that conflict as well--it got strangely ugly for what I thought was a minor request.)

What I didn't add was, "We shook hands for 2.5 years, much of that twice a week! How do you not recall that?" Plus, I mean, if we didn't shake hands, then why would I have even mentioned it?
