Bad news - ugh, I've got a bad cold on top of strep because of working in a daycare center

Good News - I've been chosen for an in-person interview at another company

I just emailed a new T.

I've felt off and bad all of this morning.

My mom’s car when I was growing up was a 1960s VW bug. Its engine was in the back and it only had seatbelts in the front seats.

A vase would not have suited the ambience.

Hugs. You're in a difficult situation. Our government has found out that one major issue is people eating, drinking, talking in cafeterias, including outdoor ones with spaces between seats.

So alongside schools operating at reduced capacity, and schools going back and forth with virtual learning, outdoor eating has been going back and forth depending on the number of cases.

I can definitely understand your preferences, ideally students who can do virtual should be doing virtual. With in person for kids who need it like your daughter.

Can she wear at least a surgical mask? I know done autistic children can't, but if she can, it's better for her to be masked even if it looks awkward. Or can you have a trained tutor coming to the home? The friend I live with is basically a therapist and tutor for autistic kids who does things in a child centric way.

It makes sense you're very anxious.

Yes it isn't a daycare (yay!!)- I'm just doing that temporarily to help out my Dad and his wife (They own it). Thanks for the well wishes.

One thing we were talking about with schools is how in our county (both my D and his son are in the same school system, though elementary vs. middle school), it doesn't seem like they've created a backup plan for if there's an outbreak in one school or if it's widespread enough that they need to go virtual for a month or more. Dr. T said how maybe it was a case where none of the county school board members wanted to seem like they were being negative, in suggesting a backup plan. Which wouldn't surprise me, with how ridiculously politicized Covid is in this country.

One good thing is that they recently announced that they're going to require masks in schools again (they start in a few weeks). However, they're going to be at full capacity (unlike when they reopened for hybrid in the spring), so for lunch, it will be a big group of students in the cafeteria, unmasked while eating/drinking.

My D really needs some in-school services due to her being on the autism spectrum (she did very poorly with distance learning), so I'm very torn on what the schools should do. Honestly, my preference would be for them to do something like they did in the spring, with classrooms at half capacity (some students at home doing virtual learning), distanced in the cafeteria, and priority for in-person for those students who have a greater need for services (like D).

So I'm very anxious about it all...And my D is 10, so no vaccine allowed for her yet (while Dr. T's son is vaccinated, because he's old enough). I've heard mixed things about when it could be available for her, from early fall to mid-winter.

Crap. BF’s brother (who lives in a low-income country) has COVID.

He’s not vaccinated because he hasn’t had access to the vaccine.

Texas here, with a governor who refuses to allow independent school districts to decide for themselves to mandate masks, and he will not fund virtual option. So, back to school at full capacity basically unmasked - some will mask, but most won't. 30-35 high school bodies in my classroom. Yeah, not thrilled. Some will be vaccinated; some will not be vaccinated. Covid numbers in our county are at last November's levels already. Fun times ahead.

Ugh, I hope he'll be OK. Do they have enough hospital beds and medical supplies there?

Hospitalizations and deaths are almost entirely unvaccinated people. This is the case across the country.

ETA: so now we're in an endemic pandemic.

Sounds like the hospital system is in total chaos.

Fortunately the brother doesn’t sound like he’s that sick (yet).

After several ideas being floated, it's now being proposed that we'll WFH 100% and we'll lose our assigned desks. I'm not handling the thought of this very well.
