Hey Everyone!

I've been back reading the Couch threads for what seems like a million years, and finally caught up. Not doing well right now. Eating disorder stuff is kicking in HARD, and other things. Ugh. It sucks to feel hopeless all the dang time.

Please tell me I'm not the only person to have a Zoom therapy session interrupted by a virus scan? It was a brief interruption, but I lost my flow, and more to the point, I don't remember scheduling a virus scan at that particular time.

The IOP place is in the process of verifying my insurance. I don't know how long that will take. It's stressful but I am sure being in the program will be stressful too. I hope I am doing the right thing.

I'm sorry about the insurance stress, Kit. I hope that the program turns out to be helpful. Hugs.

Hugs, I'm sorry that happened. L and I had numerous glitches when we were doing virtual sessions. first we tried using some doctor kind of program thing and it was not user friendly at all so then we switched to zoom. that was a little better but not perfect. one time we ended up just finishing the session on the phone cuz she couldn't get reconnected.

I made this interesting concoction last night that's pretty tasty. it's brown rice, black beans, corn, and fire-roasted tomatoes. I added some spices to it too. It's still a little bland, but I like it anyway. Might could use some kind of sauce but I don't know what to add.

Emailed T last night after trauma stuff came up in yesterday morning’s session. Just like one sentence saying I still felt shaken up, nothing about SH/SI/etc. He didn’t respond, which is his policy with email (though sometimes he will respond anyway). That didn’t feel good. I haven’t sent him an “I’m struggling” emails in a while; I forgot how crappy it feels when he doesn’t respond to those. Will have to remember that for the future.

Also, for our grammar experts, two questions:

1) Is, “I still felt shaken up” correct?
2) How do you show possession if someone’s name ends in ‘s?’ E.g. if you have a friend named Mr. Smiths and you would like to discuss a car owned by him, is it “Mr. Smiths’ car” or “Mr. Smiths’s” car ir something else entirely?

1. Yes. But maybe "I still feel shaken up" depending on the context of what you are writing (past or present).

2. "Mr. Smiths' car is getting repaired." Generally, you don't do "s's". It's awkward. It's not technically incorrect either way, but the apostrophe alone at the end suffices.

Agreed on this. I think there's one particular style guide that does the Smiths's. Maybe AP (Associated Press)? The one used by newspapers? I've worked with so many different style guides at this point that I don't recall. Or maybe it's a British thing (I edited for a British university at one point).

I've had some sort of rupture with my therapist and I'm feeling pretty dreadful about it. The situation has triggered some immature feelings of "I'll show him by not coming back". He said some stuff that brought down this whole cascade of fears and negative feelings about myself. Right at the end of the session. After I told him that we should probably not continue talking about it. I haven't emailed him about it. He hasn't checked in on me even though I left his office in tears. This sucks and I don't know what feels right to do for myself right now.

What Artley said, and for 2 (I know this mostly because of my academic specialty, most people won't observe the rule), if a singular name ends in -is or -es, you don't need the s. So Isis', Pericles'.

Don't ask me why but it's in Strunk and White.

And that was way more than anyone wanted or needed to know.

I'm drinking a Shirley Temple and feeling very old-fashioned.
