I have several issues mainly stemming from obsessive severe fears of aging and dying. Impending doom, dreading the future, self-loathing, complex ptsd, etc. I am 48 and extremely depressed about getting older and terrified of the dying process. Also constantly worried about my health. I am so scared that I will die soon. I am relatively healthy but I just live in fear and feel in danger all the time. I have tried almost everything but nothing helps. If I am like this nor, how worse will I be at 55,60,65,etc.

I am on medications but they are not working.

What type of therapist do I look for? I need something individual and intensive.. I do not nor where to start searching for a proper therapist.

It sounds like you're struggling with anxiety.

You can do a google search for therapists in your area that treat anxiety, including the specific fears you have. You can also ask for an assessment and a diagnosis from a licensed psychologist or psychiatrist.

Sometimes your primary care physician or your current psychiatrist within your healthcare network can refer you to a therapist that accepts your insurance.

You can also call your insurance company to see what therapists are within your network in your area.

If you're paying out of pocket without insurance, then you have a wider range of options, depending on your budget.

Do you live in the U.S. or a different country?

You can do a google search on your symptoms to see what .org or .gov or reputable .com shows up that is either a local or national facility that treats what symptoms you have described. If you've not yet been diagnosed, you can try to find a psychologist or psychiatrist to assess you.

Only a trained and licensed clinician can diagnose and then treat you for your symptoms and/or diagnosis(es). They can offer you many different options to help you with your symptoms. You can explain to them that your meds aren't working.

What does treatment look like to you? What do you imagine treatment being for you? Based on your answers, you can find a therapist who suits what you're looking for as well.

Maybe a therapist who is willing to explore existential issues? I've benefitted from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy even though it's not all about existential issues like dying. It helped to clarify my values and make meaningful goals according with my values. It also helped me accept aspects of my suffering (Complex PTSD, and a number of other comorbid diagnoses) not blame myself for them. Acceptance doesn't mean agreeing. I'm fortunate that my therapist doesn't shy away from my existential concerns.

It looks like you're in the United States. I'd recommend using the Psychology Today search (click on "Find a Therapist"). You can look by city and state, also specialty, gender, whether they take insurance (but contact them to confirm), have a sliding scale, etc. And you can generally see a photo, and brief description. It's where I found my last two therapists, plus a couple that I tried out while considering changing. I'd suggest then looking on their professional websites if there's a link to one, as you can generally get more information there.

What I've done is typed up a brief email listing what I'm looking for/why I want a therapist (like brief description of symptoms) and sent it to a few therapists who looked promising. Many will offer a free 15-minute phone or Zoom consult (some may offer in person) to see if they're a good potential fit.

I would look for a humanistic, relational, therapist.

I don't have any advice about finding a therapist, but I want to tell you that you're not alone with your severe anxiety and fears. I totally relate to what you've described.
