Thanks, daisy. That makes sense. Dry beef would be a bit...boring, or dog food like.

A lot of things can affect your menstruation/bleeding and pain in that area. I'd go see a doctor if pain is severe for more than about a week or it regularly occurs/there's heavy bleeding...

Stress can be a huge factor and you have been through a lot with your ex landlady.

How long did it take to arrange an appointment last time?
It was within the day for the appointment but that was for a gynae in private practice. I had to raise funds for that appointment then pay back the people.

In public healthcare, it'll probably take several months. I've had to wait for around 6 months for certain specialists in the past.

Though I'm fortunate that my endocrinologist or psychiatrist can probably do a "specialist to specialist" referral to save me SOME time. That's what my psychiatrist did for my upcoming opthalmologist appointment.

And I'll keep my public healthcare status which is easily 50%+ cheaper than private healthcare. Then yeah, more applying for government assistance with the healthcare bill, since I'm literally working poor.

So I won't have to go a public health GP and argue for the referral upwards, and at public healthcare costs.

Will still take months but I think either my psychiatrist or endocrinologist can still prescribe painkillers.

Worth pursuing, whether it's linked to covid-19 vaccination or not. Hmm, I'll see if my nation has similar reports, because I'm curious.

Rant about my mother, finances, bills, favouritism below:

I'm a couple days late on an Info fashion report. Enjoy them while they last.

It was on Zoom, so all I can say was the top was a tan sweater thing with like a mink stole collar? I assume that was fake.

Big gold hoop earrings. Bedhead hair.

I don't really remember whether she was any help or not. Kind of neutral.

She was useful in one thing. My department is doing an external search for a new chair. There are like only two tenured faculty (I'm one) that we would all trust to be chair, and we both said NO. Anyway, our candidates are visiting, one last week, one this week, one next week. The one this week Google-stalking told me was VERY religious. Info happened to know something about the sect in question because of her own religious nature (different denomination), which reassured me a little.

The candidate herself was not reassuring. I asked her about support for disabled faculty and staff and she thought an appropriate response was to tell us about the time she thought a blind graduate student shouldn't be teaching because she was blind and how she resented having to give her accommodations. This does not bode well for any future working relationship she and I might have.

Absolutely a horror. I agree with SD. That is a disqualifying answer right there because it shows an unwillingness to follow the law. Hopefully even faculty who have never had to deal with a disability of their own or on behalf of a loved one can see that as the glaring red flag that it is.

≈=====================================

We have two faculty candidates visiting, one yesterday and the second on Monday. Yesterday's candidate over-defined trauma to a problematic extent (unexpected or major home repairs were cited as an example of trauma). Yes, if you haven't got the funds for these, it is extremely stressful and worrying. And if you're having a kitchen redone, living without for 2-3 months makes you want to scream. But is it really TRAUMA?

I do understand the impact of small and repeated experiences such as microaggressions related to race or gender, and how that can be experienced as chronic trauma. But if we define everything negative or uncomfortable that happens to us as trauma, then the word loses all meaning.

When some subjects in her research did not identify as victims of trauma (which there were very good reasons for), she said that this in itself was a "trauma response." Yikes.

I really liked her in a lot of ways and think she had a lot to offer. But I'm worried about this intellectual habit. It reminds me of the therapists in the late 80s who convinced a lot of their female clients that they had been victims of child sexual abuse. If they said they didn't remember any such thing, that was just more evidence that the client had been so severely abused that they could not possibly remember the abuse.

I know I'm probably overreacting a bit... but at the same time, I do think that how carefully a person thinks is very important in a person's suitability for a professor job. Couch 235: Home State Advantage

I remember back in a women’s studies class in college, there was a general “you’re so oppressed you don’t know you’re oppressed” vibe.

I mean...let people decide their oppression for themselves, hey?

One reason I like Visa is she informed me she disagreed with virtually all previous therapists, who would claim that being hard of hearing had given me PTSD. I was happy to hear she agreed with me instead of them.

Major home repairs are trauma? I mean my major home repairs were a trauma because they resulted from a trauma. But something you enter willingly into is not a trauma. Geesh.

I agree. Uncomfortable, and even highly distressing things, don't have to be trauma.

It's like how there's a difference between sadness and clinical depression. People experiencing either deserve the support they need, but the 2 are not the same thing.

Morning couch, well I slept a little later than I'd intended this morning (that happens when I have the house to myself haha) so I skipped going out to breakfast, ate a yogurt instead and then went for a short hike. It was like 44 degrees F when I got to the trail head and very windy.... so I didn't hike for very long! Didn't even go a mile. Oh well, I got a couple good pics, anyway! I'll go back out this afternoon assuming it warms up a little. Happily the park is only like 10 minutes from my house.

Oh for Pete's sake. So she's a jerk and unprofessional AND doesn't have the awareness to know this is not appropriate answer to a job interview question. Yikes.

You know, I had some weird periods last year. Much heavier than normal and not to be gross, but really thin. I got fed up with it and switched my BC so I just wouldn't have my period at all.

I switched my BC (endocrinologist changed the BC) so I wouldn't get periods, but high stress seems to trigger a really light one. With severe cramping still though.

I would hate it to be heavy like it was, pre BC, but ugh... I doubt I can just have a hysterectomy.

My kitchen smells amazing. I threw a chicken in the pot at the beginning of the day. Now I'm making lemony chicken and rice soup, the Greek one @@, that I can't remember the name of (or be bothered to Google, apparently). Perfect for a chilly drizzly day. Grab your bowls, couchies, I'm making extra and passing it around the Couch.

Has anyone used acupuncture to treat sleep issues and/or depression? Someone recommended it and named a specific good local one and I’m desperate enough to consider it.
