I feel like this is going to sound like a silly question. But is it wrong to just stick with acrylics, if that's what I feel I prefer? Am I just taking the easy way out? I ask this, because one of the things my mom has always said to me is that I have a tendency to want to quit things when they get hard (therapy apparently being an exception for the most part--I know, I left Dr. T once, but that was after a string of conflicts, plus I still went back to work things through).

Anyway, am I being a quitter if I just choose to go back to acrylics? I'd gotten away from painting during the pandemic in general, had my H get me a 3-month subscription to Let's Make Art, which is a watercolor painting box (three projects with most of the materials and video tutorials each month). I've tried a couple, but eh...

Though acrylics fit better with my preferred style of painting, which is layering and building up the paint in some areas, so maybe it's simply a stylistic thing? Rather than "Waaaaaah, this is hard, I quit!"?
I recently quit acrylics because in my environment was too hot and dry and i couldnt blend fast enough not even with paint extenders so inswitched to oils and watercolours. I was terrified of watercolours at first i thought it would be too hard looking at the tutorials on yt but i found a channel which suits my rather loose style and i am enjoying watercolours far more than i thought i would. Maybe hunt around and find a some tutorials that arent so dry and boring. It took me maybe a month of hunting around.
I persisted with acrylics to the point of not enjoying painting anymore because i thought oils and watercolours were too hard. I was encouraged by a nother artist on twitch who had the same problem with acrylics.

Not until Tuesday morning. I think I'll be okay now with T being there.

There's just been a lot of stressors lately with truama work and finances. My dad found out yesterday that his dog might have cancer. I paid the bill, but told him he'd have to discuss with H how much he'll have to pay back. H yelled at me for paying the bill. He then wouldn't let me leave the room, until I told him I needed to feed the dogs.

I haven't painted in quite a while, I was using acrylic paints. I've been putting all of my creative energy lately into crocheting. I enjoyed painting though, maybe to limber up my creative 'muscle' in preparation for Nat'l Poetry Writing Month (April) I will get out my box of paints and see what happens. Thanks for the inspiration!

The thing i find hardest usually about wordle and other word games and crosswords is they mainly use American english and it lives 'u' out of a lot of words making them 5 letters and not 6 so i dont even consider them as an option

Sorry you also got those messages from your mom and ex. It does make sense to keep looking to find what works for us instead of wasting time on what others think is important or "better" as a hobby or activity.

When I wonder why my adult students are the way they are - I am pointed to what school age teachers deal with. I was reading a thing about actual quotes from parent emails --“I know my kid didn’t turn her work in but she wrote it in her head and should get credit for that”

Salon had an article about what some researchers found. Researchers put adult students in a room for 15 minutes and told them to think about anything. They couldn’t do it. When told they could administer small electrical shocks to themselves, 60% of the males did so to relieve the stress of thinking or the stress of boredom- The research was started because teachers are reporting complaints by students of making them think too much and too hard.

i'm waffling back and forth back and forth wanting to talk with L a little bit about the stuff that's come up with my mom being in the hospital. writing is helping but this evening it's not feeling like enough and I sent her a short email. I didn't say that I was thinking about asking to come back briefly, but she's always been pretty darn good at reading between the lines as they say. I hope she doesn't get upset that I sent it, since I really have no business emailing her anymore. Mostly I don't want to go back even briefly but there's a part of me that does. Most of me hopes that she ignores the email so I can just let it become a non-issue.... my mom's continuing to improve every day, thankfully.

It's sort of like how I prefer walking to running. I've tried running, and I've tried doing 5Ks, where I did a mix of walking and running (mostly walking!). I found I don't particularly like the competition aspect of that, and would rather just go for a walk. And I'm good with that. Meanwhile, H enjoys races, though he's sidelined due to injury right now.
I vastly prefer walking to jogging or running, so I basically walk with a heavy backpack.

Awwww, L responded this morning so kindly to the email I sent her yesterday. Part of what she said is what I had wanted from the letter she'd said no to when we ended... it is enough, that little part of me that wanted to talk about the things that came up with my mom being sick, is now content. And, I've got my letter.

Thanks, QM. It's not hand written and she probably didn't even remember I'd asked for a letter, but it's close enough to what I'd wanted that I'll take it!
