Hi all,

I've recently come to realise that there are a lot of books about coming to terms with the maternal relationship.

What if it's the other parent who wasn't there in the way that was needed?

Can anyone recommend any good books/resources about this?

I've resisted doing this work for a long time, and now I'm beginning to see the pattern.

Hooray for therapy and therapists who connect the dots quicker than I could process.

Thanks,

Lost

Hugs, Lost.

The Absent Father Effect on Daughters is a book I’ve heard of. There are others like that. I don’t read books, so I don’t know if it’s any good.

I had an emotionally absent father and mother. They both have effects on me and in different ways.

Sometimes fiction does a great job at this, it has an ability to circumvent some of the resistance that often meets exploration.
Although not fiction, difficult relationships with fathers is a common topic in American indigenous writers, I would recommend Richard Wagamese, For Joshua is one such title as is Medicine Walk.
Thanks for this!

Thank you so much!

I love Richard Wagamese, and I'm delighted this question has brought me back around to his work.

I did a wonderful poetry course a couple of years ago which was taught by an Anishinabe gentleman, and Embers was on the syllabus.

I've been trying to find my way back ever since.

Thanks Scarlet,

I'm interested in both aspects - the feeling and the healing.
Seems like this would be a good fit.

Take care,

Lost
