I saw my new T today (3rd session) and we talked about my parents. She suggested that I read the book Toxic Parents by Dr. Susan Forward. So far I've read 28 pages (shocker to me since I never read and don't enjoy it at all) and I can see myself and my parents in this book. My father is the king of invalidation and my mother...well she wasn't emotionally available--ever. So yeah...my parents fit into that toxic category.

I talked about my mom a bit...I cried a lot...haven't been able to talk about her or write about her without crying my eyes out and it's been 4 years. So I'm sure I'll spend quite a bit of time talking about my mom in future sessions.

I really think this T is a good match for me. Past T's I've had through this center have been one mismatch after another...but this one, Elaine, is a good match for me. We both are firm believers of the mind-body connection...and I told her what forms of therapies worked best for me and she's willing to work those into my treatment, unlike the past T's I've had.

I'm supposed to journal about my parents and read the book, which I'm sure I'll stick to because it's been assigned to me.

So things are starting to really look up as far as therapy goes.

YAY! Woohoo. Today's Session

I'm glad this T is working out so well for you! Finding one that's a good fit can be so hard sometimes... I may have to read that book now though, since I've been told that my family is toxic as well.

So nice to hear Tainted...sounds like a good book. I will check

it out myself. I fall into the same category. Sounds so familiar.

Although my mom is old now and we have made up and things are so

much better. Its really good to leave the hate behind if you can?

I speak for myself.

But keep reading the book and I hope

you get some closure for yourself.

Take Care.... Today's Session

Much success to you in your therapy...it sounds like it's off to a very good start.

Yes, I do believe it's a very good start!

My last therapist shoved her religion down my throat (I'm in a very religious area) and I was freaked out by that...and angry.
