I got an email from my school last night that Nancy McWilliams (therapist, senior analyst with the Institute for Psychoanalysis, professor, author) will be speaking at my school for supervisors of internship programs-- but the students of my doctoral program are invited. When I read this email, I almost lost control of myself because I absolutely love her.

The fact that she is coming to my school isn't really known information because it is not listed on her speaking engagements calendar.

At the beginning of session today, I excitedly said to T, "Guess who is coming to my school??? Just guess."

T goes, "Nancy McWilliams?"

Of course I lost it. I was like, "How did you know? Did you see this somewhere? Are you psychic? How are you reading my mind??!" Additionally, T and I used to talk about McWilliams, but it has been a good year or so since we have even mentioned her.

T said, "I know how much you like her, so I figured."

Wow. Out of all the people in the world that could possibly be coming to my school, T picked the right person. That is incredible to me because it demonstrates how much he knows me and listens to me. He knew exactly who I would be excited to see.

That's so cool! Sometimes my T remembers stuff I think he wouldn't, too, and it feels good.

I am glad that you and your T have such a good connection, it always amazes me the things that my T will remember about me it usually makes me feel very loved.

Pinksoil,

How exciting - both that your T knows you so well and that you're getting to hear someone you admire speak.

I think it is even scarier when they seem to know you better than you know yourself.

Last week my T sent me an email attempting to prepare me for doing something new during our next session. She didn't disclose specifics, just critical info. She gave me just enough information so I wouldn't be (excessively) worrying about what it might be; but didn't tell me enough so that I could do a review of literature on it between sessions.
