I am 16 years old and I have a sister who is 20. My entire life she has made me miserable by lowering my self esteem and getting me in trouble, up until maybe 2 years ago when she moved out. I thought things were better, but whenever I tell her anything personal or she sees or hears me do anything, she tells my mom. Now I feel like i can't do or say anything without her going to my mom to tell all. The other day when she came to my workplace, she went back and told my mom how sarcastic i am with my co workers, even though that's just how we are with each other, nonoffensively. that was the last straw and now I'm furious, but I don't know how to finally stand up to her considering how miserable she's made my life. Help!!

Viperchick, maybe you need to communicate with your sister that you are not her child and she is not responsible for you. Consider strongly making all "I" statements. Don't accuse her. Say "I need you to stay out of my business. I need you to stay away from my place of employment." etc... You may not get what you need right away but if you stand your ground, hopefully your sister will eventually respect your boundaries... and don't tell her anything she may use against you!
![]() Then tell your mom "Mom, I need you to come to me if you have any questions. I need you to stop listening to my sister tell you tales about me." Give it a try. It's worth it. ![]() This above all: To thine own self be true. --Shakespeare

I agree with septmeber.. Talk to your sister first, then make sure you use "I" statments.. It will come across better,
Try that, and hopefully it will all work out in the end The way to love anything is to realize that it might be lost. - G.K. Chesterton
