![]() And now something a bit less serious - Good Rules To remember: 1. Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he'll likely just kill you. 2. If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck. 3. I carry a gun cause a cop is too heavy. 4. When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away. 5. A reporter did a human interest piece on the Texas Rangers. The reporter recognized the Colt 1911 the Ranger was carrying and asked him, "Why do carry a 45?". The Ranger responded with, "Because they don't make a .46." 6. An armed man will kill an unarmed man with monotonous regularity. 7. The old sheriff w as attending an awards dinner when a lady commented on his wearing his sidearm. "Sheriff, I see you have your pistol. Are you expecting trouble?" "NO Ma'am. If I were expecting trouble, I would have brought a shotgun." 8. Beware the man who only has one gun. HE PROBABLY KNOWS HOW TO USE IT!!! ![]() ![]()

Haha Yoda that cat picture is hilarious.
I'm more upset that he wont compromise period. Its either we have them or we don't. Whenever he mentions it and I bring up all those stats and concerns I have he just says that he will give them to his dad and thats the end of the convo. |

![]() I'm not sure which stats you found. I have read through this whole thread more than once but don't recall you saying what you found. I often hear people say if the USA had tighter gun laws we would have less gun crime but I don't believe that myself. Here are some links about England's crime despite their strict gun laws. UN reports also shows that England and Wales are the second-worst places in the world for assaults and 18% of Brits claimed they knew how to get hold of an illegal firearm In the USAGuns were involved in about 12% of all violent crime, and handguns in about 10%. The majority of the gun crimes were assaults, mostly threats without any injury or any element of theft or rape. Just tossing these statistics out there. Is what you found similar?

are you wanting him to admit guns in homes are dangerous? you said he did suggest a gun safe so that sounds like a compromise. are you meaning you want him to modify his views as a compromise? i'm glad he's willing to have a gun kept at his dad's. that sounds like a good solution. i'm still with you that guns are more dangerous than they're worth. they only have one purpose--to injure people. not exactly a neutral tool imo although i'm sure some will argue otherwise.

I would hope you would read all of my posting, as you'll see it's quite supportive in basing a compromise of some sort, that keeps you feeling safe. ![]() Here's some other info, not sure it's what you want though United States3 1999 272,691,000 5.70 3.72 1.98 39.0from this site: http://www.guncite.com/gun_control_gcgvinco.html and from the NRA site: http://www.nraila.org/issues/factshe...ad.aspx?ID=126 Quote:

I would never trust stats about guns from an NRA website. Thats like going to a porn site to look up stats about porn addiction.
I stated that it was Center for Disease Control was the main source which then had links to other sources. He did mention it in a safe but I can't broadcast the tone on here lol It wasn't a genuine compromise. It sounded like a backhanded "fine then I'll just do this!" one of those kind of comments. I'm trying to get him to calm down and just talk about it. Right now it really can't be done because we don't have anything but a crawlspace and I wouldn't want them in a place where others can easily get to either (the last people that lived here broke the window to it and our landlord still hasn't replaced it lol) This house that we are looking at getting in Arkansas has a shed in the backyard which is what I have tried to say to him. Something outside with a lock is perfectly fine with me. I finally did get the REAL reason why he wants the guns. I told him I just didn't feel like 'safety' was the real reason and that that was his excuse to get them here. He said that he was given them by his grandfather in his will when he died and he never knew his grandfather. So the main reason is sentimental value. I said well if you would have told me that in the first place I would have had a different reaction because if they are for other reason than safety then they will always be unloaded, locked etc.... So now that I know the real reason why he wants them I feel more ready to talk about having them. I still would like to wait until we have a shed or something outside with a lock that they can be kept in. He actually listened when he told me the real reason and would actually listen to my reasoning. I think he was maybe ashamed of keeping them for sentimental reasons? Like he felt that keeping them to think of his grandpa wasn't a 'manly' reason for guns? Because he was REALLY hesitant about telling me the real reason. Who knows.... I'm going to try and get an actually convo about it with him later today. Maybe after the basketball game we will win and he will be in a good mood lol But if we lose I have to wait even longer.... |
