I grew up with the idea that Cinderella and Prince Charming lived happily ever after. How about when you live crappily ever after?
It seems that after the attempt at marriage counseling that my marriage continues going down the drain. I still love my husband and I know he loves me. I truely fell that anyone who said love is enough has never been in my situation. When you live with a person who you love so much you won't kick them to the curb. If there is a criminal charge for child neglect why isn't there one for spousal neglect?? It is in each person a certain set of base needs. Things we need from the people we love. When a spouse doesn't meet those needs then what? Any one know this feeling and can give helpful advice....PLEASE POST!! |

There is a reason all those fairy tales end at the wedding (or the first kiss): relationships are hard work. That Hollywood myth that love can conquer all is BS. Some things love can't conquer, and it certainly can't if only one person is working at it.
I don't know your specific circumstances, but it seems a bit hasty to give up after only one attempt at counseling. You wouldn't tell an alcoholic they are doomed to life as a drunk if the first time they try to quit it didn't work out. If your marriage is important to you, try again. At least, as long as it is not something that no one should be expected to live with ever, like abuse or rape. If your partner is unwilling to attempt to meet your needs, and you are unwilling to go without, you may be able to work out a compromise where you can get those specific needs met by someone else. If your marriage is important to you, it may be worth a try. And if it is failing anyway, what is the worst that could happen? He could say no? |
