I don't know of any books or techniques that help a person change their personality.

There are certain aspects that you could work towards with therapy and replacing those aspects with healthy behaviors that you'd like to do regularly. That takes time and a lot of repetition though.

Define ***? I mean can you break it down into specific behaviours? Maybe you could look at those behaviours idividually and see why they happen. Get to the root of why you behave in a particular way -- and then you can change it.

Also one man's *** is another man's soft cuddly part (unless I'm misinterpreting the three asterisks - in which case this statement could have alarming connotations). So be gentle with yourself... ((((HUG))))

The reality of the situation is that you aren't going to be able to morph into someone else - the good thing is that you notice you have less than attractive qualities and want to work on improving them. I think counselling or therapy is an excellent idea. You can get to the root of the problem and as shezbut mentioned, work on replacing such behaviours with a different outlook/way of processing information which leads you to behave in such a way. I hope you continue to find this place supportive and informative. Best of luck.

You don't say what aspect you want to change. If you want to get along with people better, you might enjoy reading "How to win friends and influence people" by Dale Carnegie. It's a book that has been around a long time, but the ideas are timeless and genuinely helpful.
