Hi, I've been getting along pretty well with this woman online but I don't know if I have the courage to meet her in real life. I have social phobia and I've never been totally comfortable with anyone outside my immediate family, except maybe three or four people in my entire life.

I feel like I should tell this lady that she shouldn't waste too much time on me because we probably won't meet. But then I also want to meet her.

Thoughts?

Be honest up front and tell her you have social phobia and you would like to meet her but you are also scared to meet her. Most likely she will understand.

Gosh I hope you can meet her in real life since you seem to be getting along so well online. So I'm sure you'd get along in real life. Why not arrange to meet somewhere where it isn't so busy, like in a park -- and you could bring the coffee or sodas, and maybe some donuts? At least in the park, you could have a little bit of privacy, and there aren't crowds of people hanging around you.

And I agree with Yoda too, that you should be open with her about the social phobia. I'm sure she'll understand. So go ahead and meet with her, and let us know how it goes, okay? God bless & take care. Hugs, Lee

I would open up too about your phobia....and don't push it with yourself. It sounds like you are almost ready but not there yet.......give it some more time and then see how you feel again.......

Be honest upfront and she will understand and wait until you're ready. I really hope you do decide to get together with her because if you don't you may miss out on something special. Good luck and keep us posted

Thanks for your responses.

One thing I probably didn't make clear is that I told her that I am very shy and have never had a a girlfriend and also that there is no guarantee we will ever meet due to my shyness.

Also just to reply to a point from one of the responses, I could just go on an easy quiet date with her, but that won't make it any easier for any possible future meetings. It just seems to me that I'm already trying to minimise contact with this person even though I'm supposed to be doing the opposite.
