Thank you Pat. I am good to him too. I think it's all a two way street. We can also annoy one another Tips for MEN. But thank you that brought a smile to my face.

This is a good thread. I don't have a husband or someone I love romantically, but I do have a boyfriend. He isn't always supportive and doesn't do a lot of things he should (I'm not perfect, either), but there are some things he gets right:

He does the dishes on my birthday.

He works and pays his portion of the bills.

He's concerned for me when someone does something that causes me distress with my OCD.

He thanks me for cooking dinner.

He usually (not always) buys me ice cream and junk I shouldn't have when I request it.

He drives my mom and me to Wal-mart and other places when she wants us to go shopping together.

And these aren't things he does for me, but that I adore about him:

He really likes children and gets along with them well.

He has a great relationship with his sisters, especially the younger one.

Awwwwwwww, sounds like he's a keeper. While the big gestures are nice, they don't happen all that often. I think it's a lot more thoughtful to do the little things consistently.

I thought of a couple of other things I'd like:
He doesn't necessarily have to be a pillar of emotional support, but I don't want to hear "I'm burned out on listening to other people's problems" either. That gives me the impression that I'm going to have to watch every word that comes out of my mouth for fear of sounding needy. (The Buddhist guy told me that the other day. He worked in a halfway house over 20 years ago and now he doesn't want to listen to anyone else's problems).

I'm not looking for a new dad for my kids, but I don't want to have to pretend that my kids don't exist at all either. I want someone who's willing to do things as a "family" as well as wanting to do things as a couple.

When you say you'll call, call.

When you say "call me", pick up the phone.

And don't call at 12:30 a.m. and get us all excited for our impromptu brunch date so we can't sleep. Tips for MEN. OK, I'm not really upset about that one
