Hi this is my first post so I'll try to be as clear as possible...
Not long ago -a year or so- I met a boy and we started dating -and were having a good time, and a rough kind of relation (I just want to put you in context here), but thing is he was only here for a couples of months and all... He went back to his country -I don't know where- and we decided to keep chatting online -having a Dom/sub relation online-. But now I have told him that I wanted our relation to end because it wasn't healthy and I wanted to have a boyfriend that could be there for me, he said that he didn't want it to end and that it was all right. So I made up a story to make him understand that it was better for both of us, and that it would be better like that. Problem is he started to call me all kinds of name, said I betrayed him and that I was only a cheat; and that since we were together for some time now that he had enough pictures of me - compromising pictures I mean- on his phone to put them on Internet and that he'd put a Craiglist add in my area to make sure I'd get annoyed. He's clearly blackmailing me and I don't know what to do... I asked him to stop and the only thing he says it's that he wants to see me broken and begging for mercy... I want to go to the police, but I don't see how they can help me since it's been happening online... I'm so desperate, I need help, I can't take it anymore. Please help! |

They still can help you even if it's online. There are ways. I dont' see how anyone BUT the police can help you.

Don't know if you can get to Craig's list & have the block anything from him in your area.....but the police have no jurisdiction over the internet & they definitely have no jurisdiction over someone in a foreign country & neither does anyone within our country.
Best to think ahead about HOW you are getting involved with someone before the fact rather than after. I am sure you can have anything deleted if he were to have anything posted if Craig's list can't block it before it gets posted....but you will have to be on the watch in that case.

Can you take the fun out of it for him and tell him you don't care what he does? If you can take his enjoyment out of it then maybe he will go away. Also not to be too nosy but were you over 18 in all the photos he has? If anything he threatens to post is of you underage then yes the police can definitely help. You also might be able to contact Craigslist and explain the situation to them and see if they can help. Good luck to you.

Ignore him

Call the police -- they may scare him into behaving properly. A uniformed officer knocking on his door and telling him to cut it out may make him think twice about threatening you.

Thank you for all your answers and for the support. I'll try to overcome that and go to the police and I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks you've given me a lot more courage to do what has to be done

internet bullying is a crime.
the police can definitely help and you may even get a hold of the FBI because he's threatening you with a cyber crime and revealing your private information/photos. this is definitely a crime and if he acts on it he can definitely be punished if you pursue prosecution. please keep all messages/emails for proof. the police will most definitely need proof of the crime and they will want to see how the crime progressed over a period of time. meaning the first message he threatened you with may have been something small and could be overlooked considering he was upset or having a bad day to the most recent threat of him already having made a craigslist ad and seconds away from submitting the ad to be public. this gives them a timeline and basically shows the progression of his threats and crime. hell, it may be as simple as him receiving a phone call from the police advising him he's committing a crime and he should stop immediately to prevent prosecution. no matter what you do you need to file the first complaint/concern so there's some kind of log or history of this crime --i hope anything i posted here helps you in some way, good luck to you here's a few links to help; Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) | FAQ ( Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) | File a Complaint ) USDOJ: CRM: Computer Crime & Intellectual Property Section FBI ? Because this is coming from someone in another country, I doubt there's a thing the police can do about it really. I would advise no further contact whatsoever with this individual. Keep your eye on Craig's list. This guy may just be blowing and going, but if he posts anything, you can approach it with the administrators of whatever website if posts to. Consider this a hard lesson learned unfortunately. As much education and warning as there is about being careful what you share over the internet/texts/etc., people just don't seem to believe it can happen to them.

Before writing off the use of the police for this reason I would at least get the real answer from them first not a pseron on the internet saying "they probably cant' do anything" |

It's curious you don't know what country he lives in, nevertheless, any type of extortion would be of interest to the police..and to interpol, depending on where he comes from. My first thought, would also be to ignore him, but that depends on just how seriously he takes his masochistic roll. It's obvious he still wants to control you...and honestly, there is no reason to suppose he would just lose interest if you don't perform to his satisfaction, the roll you've been 'trained' to play.
I agree...call the police. Save everything you have, emails et al, to show to the police (and don't discount the feds.....FBI, Homeland Security etc.) Good luck.

My first course of action (since he's in another country) would be nothing.
I would cut all communication and ignore the shyt out of him. Then, if he's threats are not idle, and I actually get contacted by some craigslist weirdo? I would contact them with the proof of his documented threats and inform them that the content posted on their site was not permitted by me and that I will be contacting the police and legal council should they fail to remove it. Yes, I would run the risk of being exposed online, but that's the risk involved when sharing explicit content. And if God forbid anyone I "knew" propositioned me because of those pics I would claim to be the victim of photoshop and a sick guy I turned down. But that's just me ![]()
