How do I tell my boyfriend i have social anxiety?

Ive been with him for 2 years now and i feel uncomfortable with him sometimes. He has no idea what social anxiety is so i feel he would not understand and think im just over reacting. Im 38 weeks pregnant so im about to spend my life with him and he doesnt even know i have SA.

You do not have crippling social anxiety if you have managed to live with one person for two years, get yourself pregnant, etc. If it is not crippling, in general parlance, or, does not cause a significant functional impairment - the same thing in psych jargon, why would you tell him, and especially now when your life is about to change so much?

Plus, if you tell him now, he would likely write if off as hormonal or related to the anxiety over the upcoming birth experience. He may even be right in that .

Do you have names for the baby yet? Are you ready for the birth? Those would seem more relevant aspects of your life now - put the idea of disclosing whatever you call social anxiety on the back burner.

Sometimes I get nervous in crowds or at parties, even though I am generally outgoing. I don't think I have "official" social anxiety, but I can get nervous. I just tell my husband I feel a bit nervous and could he hang by me for a while? No need to label yourself.

'o.O Wow, 2 years and he doesn't know, ... that's actually impressive! I find it almost impossible to hide from friends, let alone from a partner, ... then again, if he's completely clueless about this stuff, then I suppose it's not too surprising. Perhaps link him to stuff online... ease him into the information. I wager that it won't be easy. He will have to understand that it is a very real problem, and not just a mad 5 minutes. I would also recommend getting professional support, if you are not already doing so.
