Caretaking is getting me down, and I feel trapped.

Wow, thank you. You've kind of made my evening. I could use that bit of affirmation. No, he wasn't so bad. He's very warm hearted . . . always hugs his kids. I tried to tell his daughter what it was like for me growing up with aloof parents who never hugged me . . . how she was lucky in some ways to have the dad she had. Sometimes people take for granted what they've never had to do without.

I have to agree with hannabee myself. I had thought other things until your post that explained it more. I do now see the daughter as selfish too tbh.

I could have handled things differently and truly wish I had. But the same could be said of her. Maybe we both learned something.

Her take-away from this episode is that I didn't appreciate the 5 days she devoted to her dad. Meanwhile he has gotten weaker and needs more help just to get up from his chair. Tomorrow he has an attendant for 3 or 4 hours. So I'll go home, but probably come right back. This is becoming a very consuming commitment. This incident was the last thing I needed.

I have to pull out of this demoralization. Thank you all above for listening.
