Not necessarily; I've met several people in person and been friends with them for 5+ years, visited their homes and had them visit mine, etc.

I hear they've done studies about how face-to-face relationships are far more intimate than online ones. Personally, I don't think you can truely know a person until you have met them.

I suppose it's what you make of it.

i met a man five years ago online on a literary message board and we're together...he moved to Texas when i did..he's about 90 miles from me at his new job .....

i've met people IRL that i met online and we are friends. good friends. i think it depends upon what you're looking for or if you are even looking. i wasn't looking for friends when i met mine.

I have some online friends, some of which I met in RL. A couple of them have remained my friend for the past two years or more.I think online friends are like RL ones, some last, others don't. It depends on what each of you put into it.

Friendship comes from all over. I have known one person online I think 3 years now. She even came to a funeral. Brought food and all.
Then there are people you have known for years that kinda just pop in and out.
I can not believe how kind people have been here already to me.

My longest internet friendship was around 8 years - then she moved away - we lost contact then but I still think about her from time to time.
