Thanksgiving

Yesterday my mom mentioned. Your brother is hosting Thanksgiving this year, what are you going to do? He hasn't been speaking to me, and cut me out when I got involved with con.

My daughter is going to be in another state, step moms family. My mom was like you can always go to the casino buffet, last place I want to go. Especially alone. Probably will just rot at her place if that's what they decide to do.

But how is telling me this right now helpful? It's like let's pile on the **** and just keep it coming, I want to see if she collapses under the weight.

See people in my life so love to kick when I'm down its like a game. They keep throwing the punches, because I haven't killed myself yet. They wish I was gone, they are sick of my troublesome life, bad karma, and want to see if they can push me over the edge to be done with whole mess.

Sorry your family has decided to treat you like that. I know it hurts.
Sometimes, though, it's better not to be exposed to the damage that family can do.

I stay away from family during the holidays. I'm better off. It's better for me to not have to listen to the negative things they have to say to me.

As shytti as that definitely is, the silver lining is that you know about Thanksgiving in advance.


So now you can plan ahead, maybe visit a friend instead, or plan a feast for 1.


I've chosen to spend Christmas by myself in the past, at home pigging out having a movie marathon because my "brother" was in the country and I have a "no contact" rule.


It wasn't ideal, but it's certainly better than subjecting myself to torture, and I will do so for future holidays too.

I'm living in her house right now. Avoidance isn't really an option.

Is he hosting at mom's house or can't you stay home alone for some reason?

If she is gone to brothers house for thanksgiving you get to enjoy house for yourself. I am maybe mixing people up here but didn't you just separated from your husband? How does your daughter have stepmom already?

That divorce was 10 years ago, she gas lived with dad tge last 8. I cracked because of it all. Recently 3rd marriage.

Just fyi, we do have a virtual pc thanksgiving a lot of people here are alone by choice or kinda by choice, but boy can we post pics of yummy food! And we hang out. And then other people come home from their family get togethers and start whining and then we realize how smart we were to sit here with our lonely tv turkey dinners or our tofurkey and the only indigestion WE got was from too much gravy

This is AWESOME! I'm ALL for being pro-active. I've spent holidays by myself before, and like you said, its not ideal, but if you make it into a special day for yourself, it can be a lot better. (And its a helluva lot better than being alone and depressed at the bottom of a bottle.)

OP, think of what YOU want to do for the holiday. Do you like to cook? Maybe you could make a feast of your favorite foods and pig out. A movie marathon is a good idea, too! Maybe buy yourself something special like a new pair of comfy pj's and stay in them all day while you have your special day alone.

I've spent most holidays alone for the last...10 years I think? There is a kind of family reunion type Christmas party that I try to go to every year which is the weekend after Christmas...I've begun to realize that it's far more important to me than to everyone else though. Other than that, yeah...I do the same thing: pig out, movie marathon, or if it's snowing then I'll cuddle up with a good book and a supply of hot chocolate.

Holidays are rough for a lot of people around here, I'll bet.

pj's all day sounds exciting to me!!!I love staying at home with my husband and son on thanksgiving if a snowstorm hits and we can't get into the city to visit relatives. i just think its great to wear pj's all day too.
