A recent unfortunate confrontation with a brand new neighbour has got me thinking. What kind of relationships do you have with your own. If you've had to, where have you drawn the line between acceptable and unacceptable behaviour?

Every person needs to have healthy boundaries with whom ever they deal with.

Would you share if you want to of course what happened ?

Smile and say hi is about the extent of neighborliness, for the most part. There have been some instances post blizzards of helpfulness from time to time if stuck or needing an extra shovel, things like that.

The primary problem pertains to the downstairs tenants' dog. I can put up with the occasional barking and the whining all day but I won't tolerate them failing to pick up after it. It's business is currently spread out across the yard like a mine field which we have to negotiate to reach the garbage bins. This is all the more precarious now that there is a layer of sow beneath which each land mine is hiding. I had a crew out to run a line for internet yesterday and they at first refused to perform the service on account of the crap all over the yard.

Advised the crew would be submitting a report I could no longer ignore the problem and complained to the property manager. A shame to get off to a difficult start with a new neighbour.

I am of the sort that I fear payback.

Landlord needs to take care of it. I wouldn’t personally confront neighbours. That’s what landlords and city ordinance is for.

Yes that is a landlord issue.

Most of ours are fine, one set years ago had substance abuse issues and would sometimes blast music at 2am. I would not wish that on anyone. Never did solve the problem until the tenant died. So grateful to have reasonable neighbours.

Hopefully your landlord will handle it and there will be no further problems.

As a co-owner with a duplex, and many years and people later I’ve got to say each person has strengths and weaknesses, including myself. When some neighbours are plain crazy just remember that often a gesture of kindness goes a long way plus it feels good!
Often a direct conversation will open dialogue towards a compromise or solution. You see... often what’s making you angry, others aren’t even aware of.

This is so true. Even our substance abuse neighbour had no idea we were disturbed by the 2am blasts of music. I had to have the 'polite words' conversation many times, boy did it wear the patience but reasonable is the best approach.

I live on a 10 acre farm out it the country. My neighbors are at best 1/4 mile awsy from me. My neighbors horses have gotten out & come grazing in my fields just as my other neighbors (plural) cattle drop by for visits which all require my herding them up & trying to get them back home where they came from. Yes, I know my neighbors thoygh not closly. I am much closer with my neighbors that are several miles away.

I do have my neighborly wildlife that come to visit from my woods. Momma coonie & her one kid that has stayed come for dog food dinner every night because she was unhealthy skinny last spring. Turned out dhe was nursing 5 babies..no wknder why she was so skinny. Yep, they poop on my deck & I clean that up. I have a very shy but sweet possum that cleans up what my coonies dont finish & yes, they all leave their mess on my deck instead of using my woods as tjeir outhouse but hey, I rather enjoy them & have to clean up a little. The only cleanup that is difficult is when my neighborly Pepe Le'Pewwy gets mad at another neighborly visitor & decides to spray & my house ends up getting it.

Honestly I LOVE all my neighbors, furry with 4 legs or people. I will tolerate whatever for the joy of living on my farm.
