Hi.
I'm in a new relationship.My girlfriend has
ADHD,PTSD,Anxiety Disorder,maybe more diagnosis
I'm unaware of yet.Or that she is.She see's
a psychiatrist[who came up with all this] about once a month,he assess-then prescribes various meds.

For ADHD she has been prescribed Dex..[kind of speed/]. Also Xanax for sleep [& what else not sure.]
Then she seems to take Mood Stabilzer when she feels like it,the name of which I forget.[May start with a P?]
And then lastly blood pressure pills.
On top of this as I've gotten to know her the last 4 months I
realize she has an alcohol problem:a bottle of wine a day-several beers at least.
She is in no psychotherapy at all..just me! lol!
Ive had the same therapist for over 20 years-Ive overcome my own serious alcohol & drug problems. I never used pills to combat my various mental states.Recently i took sleeping pills which i did not like at all.Thats just me tho.
Anyways..I am very concerned about her mixing all this stuff with booze..and whenever i have mentioned this she goes & grabs a Mood Stabalizer! If only I had that as an option!
To see her on Dex is hard for me-she really speeds bad and spasms alot.Mornings are so sweet with her tho[before the routine kicks in].

Somethings not right with this picture & really know little about
the med part..so Im pretty confused & scared..and I see her health in big trouble.

Any opinions on the mixing of all this stuff & booze.
And secondly how can I approach this subject with her
as i care alot!
My only idea so far is to start attending Alanon meetings..

Best to all!
M

Unsure if girlfriend is abusing her meds. mannaguy!

Welcome to PC. Glad you found us and I hope you find what you are looking for here.

Anytime I hear of folks that are on meds and either not taking them when prescribed or supplementing them with alcohol is a huge red flag to me.

Alcohol as you probably know is a depressant. It will work against meds as well as make a dangerous cocktail which could cause severe health risks.

If you are really wanting to learn how to deal with her drinking, Alanon is a great option for you. I highly recommend. Anything that you can do to help understand what is going on is a help not only to you but also for your girlfriend.

Maybe if you started attending Alanon, she might start to see what is going on and be willing to attend an AA meeting. If not that, at the very least she might mention to her p-doc that she is drinking while taking her meds.

Maybe you can speak to your T about the issue. Since you are obviously concerned for her health, maybe your T can help point you in a positive direction for finding assistance for your girlfriend.

I wish you both well.

Merry Christmas to you too mannaguy!

I guess knowing something intellectually and having an illness don't always make for smart decisions. Your g/f is lucky to have you...one who cares enough to question and try to find answers to the problems.

May you both have a wonderful holiday and very Happy and Healthy New Year!

Unsure if girlfriend is abusing her meds.

You need to find your girlfriend a new doctor! This is medication overload! All this crap could kill her and/or do serious internal damage.

Best of Luck
