She also doesn’t like it if someone appears to be making new friends besides her so she always trash talks there new friend. Well there was a case where I did become friends with someone and it turns out they really were not a good friend. As much as I realized that was the rare case where the arrogant person was right, I didn’t want to admit it due to how she likes to rub it in and has even said stuff like no one really will ever be there if I needed someone except her. I knew a couple other people that did the same kind of stuff too. |

I've gotten bad grades not because I didn't understand the assignment, but due to the fact that the teacher was consistently not clear about what she wanted. It can even be due to personal opinion towards someone. I've seen that happen where someone will do a great job on something and will get an A and someone else who does just as well gets a B or C. Or even if someone makes some mistakes, a teacher may be more forgiving towards some students compared to others. That's why I don't believe grades always represent intelligence 100 percent of the time. |

I once had a professor in college who was so unclear on what she wanted (and changed her mind on what she wanted) that the whole class ended up filing a complaint with a dean. It was investigated. Turned out there were many more complaints and we didn’t see her or her name on professor roster next semester. She was not full time professor and I am sure she was let go. We had ton of evidence of her incompetence. I hate inconsistency. I am sorry your dad had no understanding of how it works. |

Sadly many people either hate math or feel incompetent simply because they weren’t taught properly by a proper teacher/professor or are scared of math for life for those same reasons. |

The entire purpose of education IS to teach students to learn how to learn. It should never be an environment that anyone is supposed to learn how to fear failure. Instead it needs to be an environment to learn how much enjoyment you can actually get by seeing how much you can learn.
A movie that comes to mind is "Dangerous Minds" starring Micheal Phiffer. I liked how she decided to approach these challenged high school students by allowing them to start with an A and try to keep it instead of thinking they could never achieve an A. |
