Hello,
sorry in advance for my english

I post here cause i need an advice

About a week ago I bought a friend of mine a denim dungaree (online shopping)
She said in the past she wished to have one

I carefully chose the model and ordered more than one dungaree cause wasn't sure about the correct size
I then selected the one to give her, proceeded to wash it, iron it and put it in the box...
...just to realize that the brand is not known as an ethical one
I did a research and it is not considered ethical, also the label clearly report "Made in Bangladesh"
She is quite emotionally involved in that topic

Sorry if i ask an opinion on this forum, i just don't know what to do
Was about to ship it...

I am tempted to remove the label but guess it would be worst

What would you do?

Hi,

I see your dilemma. I'm not sure what I would do if I was you. I might return the gift and get another one to give, one that does not have the potential to cause distress or bad feelings to the person I am giving it to. But that is just my opinion. Best luck to you on whatever you finally decide.

Thank you for the reply
I made the decision to talk to her about it , we are actually quite close friends. i tried to keep it light

I would have never behave like this when i was younger... But lately, i feel like everything is a problem
Currently I am trying to be a responsible consumer and mind ethical issues... but this time i fell into the temptation to look for a particular model of denim dungaree that i knew she was looking for... and avoid moral questions -thought the brand i shopped from is not "the worst around"

She told me since i was already about to ship the dungaree, and i didn't want to buy unethical stuff on purpose, to send her anyway and that she will still try it on to decide what to do. She said she likes the idea behind gift
Normally she buys from ethical and sustainable brands or thrift shops

i am gonna review my recent behaviours

I am surprised you washed it. I’ve never heard anyone washing gifts before gifting them. Typically if a person wants to keep a gift, they’d wash it themselves.

After you washed and ironed it, it might not be possible to return. If it wasn’t washed and ironed, I’d return it and just send her a gift card so she can make her own purchase.

Since you already washed and ironed it, I’d either mail to her and let her deal with it or keep it for myself.

I’d not buy clothes for people who are very particular what they buy.
Thanks for this!

Yes i washed it -selected the "delicate" program of the washing machine- since there was not paper tag, only sewed label inside
Ironed at very low temperature
Yes it might be a problem if i have to return it. The other option is to give it to charity
I indeed wasn't careful when choosing that gift, but wanted to buy something different. i usually send her birthday gift card for books and media + small objects like honey jars

If you have a local Facebook Buy Nothing group, you can post there and I am sure someone will happily snatch it. It is a much more direct way of reaching a happy taker than via intermediaries.
