I'm sure you guys are tired of hearing about my problems between me and my dad but he has thrown a major problem at me this time and I don't know what to do.

He told me earlier this week to be thinking about ways to help out around the house to help them to since they have to help me pay my bills. I said ok I can do that so I came up with a plan that a couple of days a week I would go out for a few hours and help my mom do what she can't do like vacuum etc. My mom has fibromyalgia and somethings are hard for her to do. He told me that wasn't good enough and that I'd have to work for 32 hours a week at their house at $5 an hour. Ummmm if I was able to work for 32 hours wouldn't I be doing that somewhere? I just don't know how to handle the situation without it becoming a big blowout world war 3 thing.

I guess this was more of a rant than anything

Jbug, tell him SSI only allows ppl to work 16 1/2 hours per week anything over that and they will re-evaluate your payments ( good way to scare him )

Any arrangements - should involve your input about what is reasonable.
If you are available to work those hours every week - then the hourly pay is something that you would consider - no matter where you are working.
Is $5 per hour even the minimum wage?
What is the minimum wage - and when are increases due to occur.
If you were working for an employer then would there be money deducted to protect you - such as unemployment insurance, workers compensation, etc?
If you consider that you owe them your time/service for their financial assistance - then what is your time worth (in dollars)? Don't let them minimize your worth.
Don't let them dictate the conditions - you must have input too.

hon you go thru this with you dad all the time right? are you able to pay your own bills? I think I would try at least for awhile and if you can then maybe have him taken off as your payee. lord knows if we could work we would. I am rooting for you hon!

Oh dear jbug,

I am sorry this saga continues. In addition to what nothemamma wrote, if you are getting SSD, you are only allowed $600 per month additional income. I think minimum wage is close to $7...dear gosh, I guess you can't involve your Mom???

I wish things would get better, and you could handle your own finances.

Good luck,
Dee
