Have you tried fasting from social media, and has it been helpful? Why? How long did you fast?
(PC is the only social media I use because it gives you practical solutions for daily problems; I find it worth my time) ![]() |

I have never tried it, ennie, but I believe it's an interesting idea! Social media is a huge part of our lives, but it can become really unhealthy. So I think taking a break from it would definitely have some benefits. I think it could be interesting to try out. Sending many hugs to you

Although I have accounts on a couple of other forum-type sites, Psych Central is the only one I'm active on. I'm not on Facebook or Twitter or any of those sorts of things. I would think, though, that fasting from social media from time-to-time would be a very good idea indeed!

I for one participate in small doses.
- I rarely text on my phone (I feel you miss substance and context that you would otherwise get by actually talking to the person you are communicating with) - I do not Twitter, Instagram, etc as I find the quick-short form posts rather annoyingly lacking in the full story - I Facebook rather sparingly. I also limit my friends and contacts to those I only know personally in real life (I feel I just don't trust people out there, this way is safer, I find having social media friends I don't know an invitation for problems I don't need in my life) - Messenger? Again only those I actually know. I live 2 1/2hrs from my nearest friend so use the app frequently - email? This is my main contact and form of communication. I start each morning off writing a series of emails to a select handful of aquaintances. - if I must use social media, I do so primarily with other women. Yeah I may be unusual here but I just feel it is wrong to use a man who isn't my significant other as a confidant. If I do contact a man other than my partner, I am open about having done so. As for Psyh Central, yes I sepend a lot of time on here - probably more than I should. It is my voice and outlet. It is where I feel some comradery. But I am careful not to use it as a form of social communication. Again that is the role my common law husband takes. So yeah, I am pretty strict with myself. I realise not everyone has the same views as I but you would never get me engaged in an on line relationship. I just don't get doing so. How does this pertain to Spirituality? I am not sure. I am quite spiritual yet not religious. I don't experience the comradery that comes with organised religion. I have my reasons - which could be applied to the list above. |

I do not get wrapped up in social media. I almost always delete friend requests if I do not know you for real, have a relationship with you or wouldnt want to talk on the phone with you. I keep facebook for my scattered friends and loved ones. I do not take life very seriously as far as social media goes.

I use social media strictly for my brand as a DJ/Producer. I am on quite a few platforms. I do not even go through the feed on my personal account. If I see something interesting at the top I might respond, but usually I don't even do that.
I have been trying out this new software called "rescue time" which tracks how much time you spend on certain things. When I checked the social media percentage, I was shocked. I had no idea I was spending all those working hours. I am working to reduce my social media time by checking once in the morning and once before I quit for the day. I really hate it, but it is essential for what I do. I do have my own website which I am free to do what I please. It will be standing once facebook and others are dead and gone. I control my content and cannot be censored. |

I have taken breaks from social media and it’s good. I am on the fence about this. There are a lot of good things about social media and a lot of bad things. I think the key is to find a balance.

I ditched all social media about 5 years ago and it was one of the best things I've ever done, especially for my mental health. In one swift movement, I got rid of every single account and never looked back. The excuses that I would come up with as to why I needed it were absolutely ridiculous, I think. I had so many "friends" yet I only stayed in touch with 3-4 of them and I would consider them real relationships instead of internet stalking like most social media interactions. If social media is your thing, good for you. I hope it benefits your life in some way. For me the bad greatly outweighs the good. I now always try to live in a genuine manner and I hope to never go back to whatever that was.

Yes! The worst way to start a day is to look social media on your phone.
Social media makes me usually very stressful, so I try to keep it in minimum. I have deleted my accounts in different platforms. Makes me feel good and free again. More time to do better things! I didn't exactly quit instagram or facebook, but I changed the way I used them. Instagram is not pretty pictures to random people, it's place to share my photo-theme-series to my close friends and people who likes my voice/eyes. I also keep facebook so I can watch pictures of my nephew and maybe someday I have a change to ''sell'' my book there ![]() |

Oh I know, it has a way of pushing your schedule back, making you late to work or forget something, or run out of time to eat breakfast!

I rarely even go on any of those social media sites. I get tired of looking at the same types of posts from people whether it be where they "checked" in what they ate for lunch, dinner, or breakfast, just posting about their every move is very irritating to me.
