okay, i just hope i don't offend people with this post coz a few of you know i class myself an atheist. that's down to growing up in a cult family and being scared senseless of anything even remotely...are we allowed to use the word?...religious. anyway, despite that i'm curious lately.

there's a question i'd like to ask about a post in this forum...didn't put it in the persons thread incase it offended them.

what makes you feel spiritual was the post. sorry but i don't understand what is meant by spiritual? sorry to be ignorant but i'm genuinely curious.

sincere apologies if i've broke any posting rules here coz as a rule i don't come in here so i'm not familiar with the rules for here.

K_J, just want you to know that I've read your post. Don't know if I could explain without getting us into trouble. Let me think on this a bit, ok? That will give others a chance to give their opinions.

Isn't that a lovely non-religious introduction?

I took it to mean what do you have in your life that gives you a feeling you're not alone in this world, and that you're here for a reason (whatever that may be). spirituality means many things to many people. My most basic response I can give to your question is "what makes you feel connected to this world or possibly the next?"

About as simple as I can put it without inserting my own beliefs or intruding my thoughts onto yours.

Hope that helps!

K_J, while I was thinking about your question, I realized that I was having trouble separating "spirit" and "soul" so I looked them up. Some of the info comes from Wikipedia and nothing from any religious book. Here they are:

</font><blockquote><div id="quote"><font class="small">Quote:</font>
SPIRIT:
the vital principle or animating force within living things

any incorporeal supernatural being that can become visible (or audible) to human beings

emotional state: the state of a person's emotions (especially with regard to pleasure or dejection); "his emotional state depended on her opinion"; "he was in good spirits"; "his spirit rose"

The English word "spirit" comes from the Latin "spiritus" ("breath").

SOUL:
the immaterial part of a person; the actuating cause of an individual life

The soul, according to many religious and philosophical traditions, is a self-aware ethereal substance unique to a particular living being. In these traditions the soul is thought to incorporate the inner essence of each living being, and to be the true basis for sentience.

The soul, according to many religious and philosophical traditions, is the self-aware essence unique to a particular living being. In these traditions the soul is thought to incorporate the inner essence of each living being, and to be the true basis for sapience (usually defined as wisdom since it is the ability of an organism or entity to act with judgment.), rather than the brain or any other material or natural part of the biological organism. Some religions and philosophies on the other hand believe in the soul having a material component, and some have even tried to establish the weight of the soul. Souls are usually considered to be immortal and to exist prior to incarnation.

The concept of the soul has strong links with notions of an afterlife, but opinions may vary wildly, even within a given religion, as to what may happen to the soul after the death of the body.

</div></font></blockquote><font class="post">

For me to look at nature, from a large expanse down to the smallest flower bud or seedling, can make me feel what people call "spiritual." Music, even non-religious music can have this effect on me. Holding any of my grandkids, from the 14 yr old (yes, he still sits on my lap) down to the 2 yr old can make me feel spiritual. Sometimes even looking at my husband or my grown children can make me feel awe and induce a spiritual feeling.

After having studied the meaning for spirit and soul above, I realize that it's difficult for me to separate these two and even more difficult to separate the feelings I've described above from the thankfulness and the awe I feel towards the Creator of all these things. IMO, none of these wonderous gifts would be possible without the Creator. *I* wouldn't be possible without the Creator.

An afterlife is a fact for me. That's the only reason I can find for life here on Earth and all the troubles as well as the blessings that I've experienced. Everything has been a learning experience for me, starting with my abuse as a child. There was a reason for it.

Also, I've experienced the "energy" or "spirit" of those gone on ahead of me, good as well as bad. I know there's something left after the body dies.

So... what makes me feel spiritual? All of the above because I can't disconnect them from the Creator who made them. Trying to understand

I've just replied to another thread about spirituality...
Spirituality means knowing one's self, having a sense of purpose in life, feeling connected to others, and achieving one's full potential. For some, this means tapping into the wisdom within. For others, spirituality is grounded in experiencing nature. Spirituality is being inspired, focusing on sensory experiences, finding beauty and joy in everyday things, cherishing life, and feeling the interconnectedness of the universe.

Spirituality can help restore a sense of calm and balance when the daily grind may seem overwhelming.

You've experienced one side of the spirit world, and you can find-and enjoy-another side, through a loving God. It is through God that I have my spirituality. PM me anytime.
