I am pretty positive I have schizophrenia so I am not going to bother listing my symptoms, but I have decided after some pretty major hallucinations to go see my doctor, which I am doing on tuesday. I am worried what wil happen to me though? What is the process? Psychiatrist? Brain scans? Blood Tests? Drugs? I am worried they will hospitalize me, I cant stand that thought it really scares me, and I am also anorexic(but at a healthy weight) and I am scared of what food they will put into me, I really dont want to be hospitalized, I am 17 and I know if they even suggest it my mum will be like 'where do I sign?!' . In what kind of situations would they hospitalise someone?

Help I am afraid. I dont know what to tell my family either - they are going to be so mad at me, because I have had a travelling holiday to europe arranged for me but I CANT go, I am way too screwed up right now, I need help, but they will be so angry with me for messing everything up AGAIN. And they will make fun of me also.

You would only be hospitalized against your will if you are a danger to yourself or others...meaning suicidal or dangerous. Are you able to take care of your basic needs for food, shelter, etc.? I'm guessing yes since it sounds like you are living at home with your mom.

There are LOTS of people walking around with schizophrenia...they work, and go to school, and raise families. If that IS your dianosis, a psychiatrist would prescribe medications for you to lessen your delusions. Sometimes it takes a few tries to find a med which works.

The first step is seeking help from your regular doctor. He/she can refer you to a psychiatrist (pdoc) who can get your started.

The only reason blood tests or anything else might be done is to rule out any physical reason for your problem. Depending on your symptoms, that may or may not occur. If there IS a physical reason, beyond schizophrenia, you'd surely want to know so it could be addressed.

Take care. emmy

at least dip your toes in the pool of support. Start off by talking to a therapist about something safe if you don't yet trust. Make a plan to tell everything, but know you can go at your own pace. Please get help. Meds and therapy can help.

Welcome to psychcentral. Please remember that knowledge is a good thing. Right now, decisions are taken out of your hand, not in your control. Knowing -whatever the answers- place that control back into your hands. You can always say no to anything you don't want to do. TC
