They accused me of making up my symptoms and explained that they were traumatic memories from uncovered abuse which was ********. This awful experience taught me keep my problems to myself and lie about what is going on.

Lately I have been trying to understand my "illness". I have been wondering if I have one or not. My family doctor triggered all this when I saw her earlier this month for my stomach. It is hard not having a clear answer. The doubt I feel is unbearable at times.

Can you find another doctor? It is very important that you be heard and respected. A psychiatrist is meant to work with you, not against you. When they come up with inane explanations it is because they cannot admit they don't know what is going on. Often this is because they failed to look at other possibilities. A lot of them lack the ability to question, observe and listen. They tend to get one idea in their head and fixate on that. When the diagnosis is wrong this can cause harm. If the explanation and diagnosis doesn't make sense it is time to get another doctor.

Sometimes is right about psychiatrists affiliated with a university. They tend to keep up to date and are more reasonable.

Thanks for this!

You're not stupid. Sometimes things like this happen. This happens to me A LOT. I won't get to sleep until morning and then can't sleep the next night because well duh. It's so frustrating! I feel for you.

Did you ask her if you could see her more often?

The social worker I sometimes see likes to meet out of the office. We have gone for tea and walks a few times which was fun. She has even come over. The "sessions" were so much more relaxed and enjoyable.

Wow, 200 clients is a large caseload. I wonder why they won't expand their services. Obviously they are in demand.

How often can or do you see her?

My mental health care was terrible until I discovered the local community health centre. This is where I see my psychiatrist and my family doctor. The care is good and respectful. It is so much better than the hospital outpatient clinic I used to go to. They were not much help at all and were usually disrespectful. Recovery was not promoted at all. Most of the community agencies they referred to were homeless shelters and drop-in centres, which were very inappropriate for me.

Finding the right services is hard. I did manage to find one really good agency on my own that is for autistic adults. I wanted contact with people similar to me. They have a great support group for women.

You will have big problems if they dont communicate with your team. That might be setting you up for failure. I know it did for us. If they dont communicate.with eachother then you get kind of lost in the system. Here, we have to stay in the medical netwprk. Problem is, they dont have enough pdocs or therapists.

During the school year I see my psychiatrist, who does my therapy, approximately every 3 to 6 weeks. It depends on my schedule. In the summer months I usually see her every two to three weeks. I found weekly appointments too much. We tried that twice and it just did not work. I would show up with nothing to say. Three week appointments were too distant to remember what we discussed previously. I discovered every second week works best. It allows me enough time to think about what we discussed. Usually we continue on from the last appointment.

What did it feel like when you were going very 2 to 2.5 weeks?
