I didn't think they could but apparently they can to other doctors for treatment purposes just under HIPPA.

Does the HIPAA Privacy Rule permit doctors, nurses, and other health care providers to share patient health information for treatment purposes without the patient?s authorization?

They mostly can't tell other people like family members unless you are considered incompetent or dangerous to self or others which is sometimes the case with mental illness. Your therapy notes but not diagnosis and treatment have further protections so yes if you told them who your new doc is then they might transfer your meds and dx but not their thoughts that they wrote in therapy notes.

I honestly thought they couldn't because I've always had to sign something but that seems to be state legislated rather than federal. I will try to look up Texas laws for you.

So furthermore they are actually allowed to tell anyone who is involved with or paying for your care unless you object. So that includes your dad unless you tell them not to. As far as I can tell the only additional protections in Texas are encryption of your data at all times.

no wonder when my dad was paying they told him. i hate them so much. gah! and the most problems i have had has been with this community mental health center. i told the nurse who my doctor was because she said "who was it? WHO WAS IT?" so she wouldnt let up. but she didnt know who they were. but idk if she looked the doc up. i f_king hate this.

Yeah I'm really sorry I didn't realize it was a state law...in illinois the info can only be disclosed to the patient without authorization by the patient except in the case of child abuse neglect stds and a few other things danger to self and others of course. Apparently we have much more stringent protection than other states. I just get trained on this garbage every year because I work in a hospital even though I'm not an MD and they call it all HIPPA even though it's not.

Well the only way to see it is as a learning opportunity. Next time if you don't want someone to know you tell them that and then also now you know to keep your new doc secret. Hopefully they don't follow up and transfer the records and your new doc may not even read them my new pdoc wanted to form her own opinion, but you really have to decide if you are done with this T because she sounds well like a combination of concered and overbearing.

Today they covered a woman who developed postpartum psychosis, was separated from her baby & hospitalised where she underwent ECT. One of my fears is that if I ever have a baby, which I really want to do one day, I'll become completely psychotic, so it touched a nerve because of that. Then there was the pretty graphic ECT scenes, which brought back bad memories.

I'm trying to distract myself by watching a fluffy rom com...

When I had my son when I was 21 it triggered my bipolar. I couldn't sleep or eat. I didn't know it was bp I just thought it was insomnia due to depression. That's when I started on sleep meds but it was later that I was diagnosed with bipolar.

Concerned sorry my typing on the tablet is not the best...I mean it's good that's she's concerned but she seems to really want to exert control and I personally couldn't deal with that...but at the same time I know it's hard getting to know a new person and all so you might not want to leave...

Just got done watching the Oscars. It was pretty good. I finally took a bath/shower. I bought 12 years a slave, it's pretty good. It won best picture. I'm so sick of the weather here. It snowed and snowed here today. I'm tired of isolation. I just want spring to come...ugh.

And I miss mania too.

But you dont and thats okay to admit.
You DONT feel well. No one else can understand how you feel or feel what you do.
The only thing you can do is try to feel well for yourself in a healthy way. Never give up!

Actually, if you keep having migranes have you been to the dentist recently? I had 2 infected teeth in the top of my jaw. I kept having migranes. One lasted 14 days. But it turned out to be my teeth! My teeth didn't hurt at all until one of them broke off. (They were wisdom teeth)

Hope everyone is having a good day. My cold has gotten worse. I don't get enough rest, even when I try.
