I'm going to be away with my parents for 6 weeks. Stress tends to lead me into psychotic type territory. Being away from family, traveling and moving are all going to be stresses. My parents are not use to it. I need to learn about reality checks that I can do myself. That are not noticeable. I cant find anything online. Any help would be helpful.

Ugg.
I can only tell you what helps me sometimes....only sometimes.

The phrase "Stop and Think".
Ive been known to even write it on my hand as a reference.

I use grounding techniques like what day is it? What yr is it? What is my favorite color? What am I doing right now? Etc.

Also mindfulness, like one thing in the moment or I'm gonna be ok or right now I am sitting, right now I'm getting up, right now I'm getting coffee etc.

Hope that helped.
Thanks for this!

I tattooed the word "breathe" to my wrist to help but it didn't last time. I am going to try to memorize as many as I can before I leave.

I agree with sunshine on grounding. Breathing techniques, bring calming music on headphones, some chamomile tea, a book... maybe print off some quotes that inspire you or evoke happiness, carry those in your pocket. I hope all goes well for you.
Thanks for this!

I moved out of my parents house at 16 because of how dysfunctional they are. I've never been alone with them since . now I'm going on a six week trip with them. I have no idea how I'm going to do with them but my husband and therapist think I won't do well.
