The price you pay for this is freewill. It just seems like we have freewill to do some stuff though.

Roger Penrose believes that we might need to develop a whole new branch of science to deal with the mind/brain.

Daniel Dennet belives that consciousness is an illusion. wtf Dennett. Who wrote your own book is what logically comes next?

Paul Churchland thinks we should use terms such as, my c-fibers are firing up to my brain, which is releasing a chemical, instead of saying "ouch!" He thinks we should use scientific terms, not subjective terms, because he also believes consciousness is an illusion and that science has the correct vocabulary when it comes to the brain.

Here is a great quote by Voltaire if you really want to wow your professor:

It would be very singular that all nature, all the planets should obey eternal laws, and that there should be a little animal, five feet high, who, in contempt of these laws, could act as he pleased, solely according to his caprice.

Machines and AI are brutally materialistic. Play a computer in chess and it will demolish anybody. However, does the machine actually know what it's like to play a game, to have so much fun that it never wants the game to end, like so many people never want life to end? Or, is it just dark inside?

Alan Turing invented the rise of computers. he is a genius mathematician with a tragic story. I won't bog you down with that though. He suggested a hypothesis called the Turing machine. He stated that if you have two entities behind a veil and asked them the same questions, and they gave the same responses, then they are both intelligent. Lifting the veil, we see that one is a computer, so what now? Do we have to give it rights or is the intelligence behind it the computer programmers who programmed the rules and all the computer is doing is 10010001111100000.

Do put it in another way. If you make a map, do you say that the map is intelligence or that the person who created the map is intelligent?

Stuff that keeps me up at night.

thats good stuff

yea im learning about the functionalist view right now. and alan turing.

i had to email my professor tho because i cant use anything but the book for my reference. she specifically stated this wasnt a research paper but rather what i understand from the book. which i get but theres only so much that i can summarize from the book. itd be different if i was putting everythinf in my own words but im only putting one or two paragraphs in my own words and the other 5 paragraphs are summaries of other philosophers views FROM THE BOOK ONLY. this specific book. THIS BOOK that i showed you. i can summarize. but its like if you give something thats a summary already how am i to summarize a summary? like? how?

Many professors do that so they know you cannot plagiarize or cheat in some fashion. I like to spread my wings and fly too. I don't like to be pinned down by one chapter. I agree that is tough. However, you can incorporate your thoughts on the subject. I read and make notes, then go on long walks with a word document on my phone whnever I get inspired.
Thanks for this!

Jamming with Pandora listening to Lindsey Stirling tear it up on my Two Steps From Hell station while on my second day of a three day shift on the ambulance.I'm also trying to plan my return to school and a relocation in about 5 months.

I'm so under stimulated in the morning.

I'm going to get coffee.. If the place is open.

I'm going to wait until the Vyvanse kicks in and then I'll make another post saying whether or not I .. What am I even saying? * this illness and benzo brain damage..

Now I remember..

It's whether or not that the Vyvanse will work in terms of motivation and disorganized thinking.

I'm buying more smokes. I had two packs two days ago but I feel that I need one idk

I take Vyvanse also since I have ADHD as well, it does wonders for me and I don't get the awful side effects I've gotten on other stimulants(yes, I'm looking at you, Adderall...)

I hate it when I can't sleep. I don't seem to require as much sleep as I get older but I still need it and I get annoyed and irritable as hell when I don't sleep... and of course there's a risk for going psychotic if something isn't done to rectify the situation...
