The police left, leaving a very upset neighbor alone in the wing with me. He has been spraying some aerosol that freaked me out because I think he'll set fire to this place and I'll die. I'm so afraid. Oh dear God.

you'll be okay. You would smell the smoke before fire reached you. Try not to dwell on the worst case scenario. I can understand your fear.

Thank you, ofthevalley. I called 911 and police came. But I'm afraid to leave my apartment not knowing where they were going to take me. So I'm freaked out, they've been outside my door for maybe 30 minutes or more.

No one from my real life will speak to me, and now it looks like I offended some posters by posting in the neighbors thread. It's not my day, I guess.

I'm sorry to hear about that. Maybe the people in your real life are just busy or having phone trouble. I know I suck at remembering to text back if a text comes in when I'm busy.
The police have been at your door for 30 minutes?

Yes, they were. A nice cop said "she's not home" and they didn't come in. I had just spoken through the door that I'm OK and etc. I hope they're gone, anyway. I'm afraid they might take me to the state hospital. How would I ever get out of something like that? I'm just sick thinking about it.

I wonder if I should run to the airport or something and try to flee. I can deal with a week in the psych ward but not years in a state hospital.

I can't imagine they'd hang around for too long. If they were going to bring you to the state hospital they'd demand you open the door. I'm sorry you are going through this

Why do you think they'll put you in a state hospital?

Thank you. To go to the psych ward, they send an ambulance. But all that was out there was a police van. So I got truly freaked out and still am.

And you should have heard my neighbor today. He was shouting and crying for hours. Now he's laughing again, maybe because I'm afraid of the police now and they'll probably take me away at some point. But he was so angry and distraught, and then they just left him here, knowing he wanted to kill me (not sure why) with me alone. And I've been smelling burnt matches a few times here which to me is like a warning he'll set a fire that I'll die in.

Why do you think they would take you to the state hospital rather than the psych ward? Maybe you could go inpatient voluntarily?

Because it's expensive for certain loved ones who help pay my rent. They might be sick and tired of it now.

Because of money. I receive help with money from loved ones but they might be unwilling or unable to help anymore.

It does seem like an extreme solution though.
