I know this is kinda awkward, but hear me out. Doctors used to induce orgasms in psychosis patients. Obviously that's no longer appropriate. But even for most people it can be a good way to relieve stress.
I'm asking for my roommate... Once again, awkward, but she hasn't had a sexual encounter in years. I know I'd be pretty high strung if I went that long without it.
Furthermore, when she has an episode she self harms and says it stops the voices for a while. Pain can release endorphins and block other nervous impulses. So does pleasure.
This is not something she would ever pursue on her own, I don't think it even occurs to her that it might help.
Do you think it helps?

Well, unfortunately, I don't know much about this topic.

However, the explanation you provided does sound very convincing. I mean, it doesn't hurt to try, does it? Why not? After all, it'd be a far less painful and emotionally impacting way to deal with having the voices go away and such.

In the end, it's your choice whether or not to suggest it to her. But from what you said, it's a possibility and hey, who knows, it might help!

Either way, I hope things work out. Have a wonderful day!

I think you have a good point. It would help by giving a release of pleasure for at least as long as the SH gives pain. Certainly can't hurt.

Interesting. When I started masturbating I noticed an improvement. My "people" are usually sexual so I always thought I was just horny. But maybe that's not it at all. I say try it.

I couldn't have orgasms while I was psychotic so I don't know but I just wanted to point out that meds can interfere with that as can the psychosis itself for some people so you might be inviting frustration.....

Hmm, good point. I suppose if it didn't work she could just stop though.

I still can't figure out when I'm "psychotic". But I noticed when things seem really loud, I just can't have one. No matter how hard I try.

My voices sometimes say sexual things in order to scare me and I can clearly recall one time where I've masturbated while in the hospital because I think the orgasm helped calm me down
Also I was bored as **** in the hospital if I weren't in the hospital I don't think I would have masturbated in that situation

When I first read this topic i though "that's silly, i could never masturbate when I'm hearin voices" then I realized ive done this a lot actually and it hasn't made my voices quiet but it did make me feel calmer

The only problem I find is, I masutrbate more when I am "psychotic" and it is usually at inappropriate times, I don't know if it's because my voices happen then or if it's just part of my "psychotic" behavior
Thanks for this!
