HI
I am about to start school in a few days and was wondering how to go about it. See I bought all this note paper, notebooks and pens, pencils and highlighters. I am finding that I cant agree on using a notebook vs. filler note paper. This may seem so trival but I had last semester taken no notes and the semester before that had used several notebooks and paper for each class. That can get very unorganized and frusterating not knowing where your notes are that you just took. I tried to have a talk inside and parts want to use different things that I would want and it makes making a decision very difficult. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreicated. Thanks |

I use a binder and I buy Tab Dividers and ruled writing paper separately. That way I only carry what i need, and can remove notes that I don't need ( I can move papers to better organize my notes), and the binder is reusable. Buy a hole puncher so I can put together any handouts. I couldn't understand the sentence about parts that you wrote

What helped me was writing in the books themselves (however, I wouldn't suggest this if you have to return the book at the end of the year/semester).
Otherwise, the binder/tabs idea above is good. There are also multiple subject notebooks that have pockets in them where you can keep extra papers. And if you're having trouble with taking notes, schools can provide people to help you with that. At least they do in colleges, but I would assume high schools as well (not sure your age). |

Thanks for the ideas. I guess all I have to do is how to come to an agreement?

suggestion maybe you can check with your instructors to see if this is an option for you. |

What worked for me the best was taking hand-written notes in class and then typing them out on my computer shortly thereafter. That way I went over the notes again and could add ideas or thoughts once the class had passed, and I had a large, searchable archive of notes on my computer, which made writing papers so much easier!! I do the same for reading. It takes more time at the onset, but when it comes to writing, it's so much easier.
Good luck, RJ |

Amandalouise's idea of taping your classes is excellent! I combined her idea and RJ's of typing notes. I would take hand written notes and record the lecture. Then I'd listen to the tape while I trancribed the notes, typing them on the computer.
You mentioned how you could get your parts to agree on a system. Are your various parts aware of one another? Do they communicate with each other? If they do could you hold kind of a roundtable discussion with everyone participating? |

Yes, some sort of an agreement is necessary, even to attend class and pay attention, imo.
However, under accommodations allowed by law the college may allow you to have someone else take your notes for you... but it's the same "law" that would allow taping the classes too. Good wishes! ![]()
