The getting to a healthier weight program that I was part of in Feb 2010 -12 weeks of training or education has a follow-up for 9 months. I'm so happy there is this follow up for me.

It is once per month and we get the fellowship of the others who have been through the 12 weeks, a reinforement of all we have learned and if we are having a particular problem like being stuck - platoeing (spelling?), or yo-yoing, or what ever, we get individual help.

In the time since I finshed the 12 weeks course, back in late may or early June, I've stayed within the 3-5 pound range, which is the expected gain or loss. I only gained .8 pounds!

We were giving homework:

1Track all our food and activity, which is what we did in the 12 weeks!

Our other goals this month are to add some (more) fiber, water, veggies which has been shown by reasearch to help us have a more full feeling. To add these to our salads, soups and main courses and snacks.

Make and eat at least one of the soup recipes they handed out each week. That is one way to increase water, veggies and fiber.

Eatting breakfast always, everyday. Choicing healthy cereal with no more than 10 grams of sugar (any kind of sugars)and around 10 grams of fiber for one serving size. If we aren't breakfast eatters, having a healthy fiber bar like Fiber One or the Quaker Oats brand are a way to start! And a breakfast fruit or fruit juice.

Do physical activy for at least 150 minutes per week, which is less than 30 minutes per day or more, every day.

So I'm off and working the healthy eatting and changing lifestyle in a much more fun way - having support!
Thanks for this!

This is good to hear! Keep on trying!

I paid good money for help during the summer, a guaranteed program... that hasn't worked for me. Today I went in and the girl didn't even look at my food diary! She's done this 4x to me and I simply must say something!

Anyway... do it for yourself, even if you run into others that don't seem to care as much.

Any thing you do will be good, and an improvement, you know? You're a better person just for trying.

Thanks for the vote of encouragement all

Too bad that the program you paid for wasn't worth as much as a look at your food log . That's just not right. a guaranteed program -what is the guarantee? That they get paid? I vote the you speak up about your disappointment with her not looking at your food diary.

It is all about what you choose to do, but the people who are running the programs have to be positive, actively helping, making you aware of when you have a 'slip', or when you do great. But the work is up to each one of us and we are the ones who benefit the most.

I hope you were able to get some good information out of the classes you took JD! If you ever want some of the infor I'm getting, I'll be happy to pass it along.

Thanks so far so good, except I ended up in the hospital for 4 days with a partical bowel obstruction. Nothing by mouth

Now I'm back rethinking all the choices to be sure I'm getting more than average fiber. The whole point of the program is to teach us what we as individuals need, so I'll have some good questions on our next months meeting.

JD, how is your program going for you?

I'm still doing mine and right now behind on adding up the fat grams and calories from last week and this. Plus the Hubby had a surgery on Thursday, so I'm really behind in my walking a little bit too. But it is not what I do just today but rather an average of what I do over time that really counts!

All the dog walking is up to just me for a few weeks, so that will help motive me to get outside in the cold. I'm trying to come up with other exercise to do that keeps me indoor where it is warm!

One thing I love for a healthy breakfast is half a serving of strawberry yogurt (99%fat free) mixed with 1 serving size of Kellogg All Bran cereal. Yummy. I also made another huge batch of chili so I have it on hand in the freezer. This time I used really lean ground beef and drained it in cheesecloth and used that with the same amount of ground chicken.

For me that is the key, having healthy choices in the house so I don't pig out on other stuff that has too many calories/fat in them.

Thanks TheByzantine. So far I'm doing great. It is the long term that makes all the difference though as we all know! Hubby is starting to cut back on his pain medication, so I think he is doing good.

I worry about addiction when either of us is on those kinds of narcotics.... if there are other things that I can do for myself like exercise or heat and ice etc, I'll do that first. Pain is a very good motivater though to just get rid of it when you feel it!

Opps off topic a bit. The best benefit of his having this surgery is that he can't drive for nearly a month so I'll have our car! I can go to the gym to work out or to the mall and walk any day I want to.
