what a great thread

i started trying to sort things out more, i found an app that helps me put in a routine and add tasks to do, which helps me to remember too as memory is worsening very much

the app i use is flylady if anyone else is interested, i like it because as i said previously its a memory thing for me.

ive been decluttering draws and cupboards and things and cleaned things that i forget needs doing like washing net curtains and cleaning the tumble dryer filter and hoovering the ceilings to rid of cobwebs and spiders

also been more organised i cancelled netflix and rang other companies to get things sorted

anyway thought i would share

Robo

I've been lurking on this thread for some time and have been so inspired and encouraged by everyone's posts. I hope it's okay for me to just jump in like this.

I broke down recently and asked a friend for help with some big projects.

I've been pretty good at keeping on top of meal planning, shopping, bill paying - laundry and dishes. But I'm left with no energy to tackle some of the big things that have accumulated from long periods of depression and insomnia.

Luckily my friend has agreed to help. We've arranged for week after next for him to start.

It's a humbling experience and a bit humiliating to admit that I've not been well enough to properly care for my home and things have become too big to tackle alone.

Our bedroom and closet are extremely cluttered and unorganized and has been for years. I have no idea what I'll find in the closet and that overwhelms me. To top it off we have to be out of our house by early spring and really want to start getting rid of things now instead for waiting to the last minute. We have collected a lot of junk during the ten years at this house and it'll be quite a big job especially due to my health and my hubby working but it needs to be done as it will save us from stress later when it's time to move.

I just can't get my butt in gear and start in the bedroom. I'm ashamed that I let it get this bad and sort of don't know where to be begin. All I know is that I need to be doing more around the house be it dishes, cooking, laundry or de-cluttering all the junk.

I think that I need to take baby steps when it comes to the bedroom and also the getting ready to move so that I don't feel so overwhelmed. The daily stuff I just need to begin doing since hubby is the one doing it right now and that's not fair to him no matter how much physical pain I have. I just have to jump in and pace myself I think.

I'll try to post here weekly to report back on how I'm doing.

I've been faithfully cleaning the house every weekend, getting all the laundry done included. I also, 3-4 mornings a week, vacuum and straighten up before I leave for work. I fold the bed linens down neatly to "air" every single day.

Those bloody boxes full of un-opened mail going back 2 1/2 years are taunting the hell out of me, though. Unfortunately, I don't have a friend that can come over and help. I know virtually nobody where I live now. My SO is worse than I am - his desk drawers look like mini-hoarding stations. I looked in to hiring an organizer but I simply can't afford it. I need a motivation buddy! Somebody that will just be there, quietly, while I try to begin to tackle those boxes. I get so anxious just even thinking about it.

It would be great if we lived near each other-I like the idea of a declutter buddy!

I like the idea of declutter buddies, but what I have found is that if I partner up with a neat freak, they upset me because they want to throw out all my stuff and I feel judged... and if I partner up with a fellow slob, they want to take all the junk that I am ready to toss and bring it back to their own house

I am also feeling overwhelmed, not just with the house but with all the stuff I need to do. We had a couple of big things go wrong house-wise when we were out of town and I am just getting caught up from that. It is so hard to pick that small piece and get started with one thing when it feels like you have forty million things to do.

I will start by putting the clothes in the dryer so I have something to wear today!

I decided to take today off instead of heading into the office to make up hours. I'm hoping to get some cleaning and organizing done and maybe catch up with a few friends. How is it September already?

I've done dishes and am folding laundry...

My goal this week is not so much work around the house but to get us packed and organize all our medical appointments that have to be done before we leave in a week for vacation. I've got medical tomorrow as well as shopping for an outfit for the wedding we're going to and today my main goal is to do all the laundry while the hubby gets new tires on the car. I am not feeling motivated partly because I'm in a painful flare from SLE and moving hurts so I've been putting off chores by being on these boards. I know that I need to do the laundry and do things like make a shopping list and some light cleaning and I plan on getting to all that today but right now in this moment I am so not motivated.

BlueEyedMama, I hope you are feeling better now. What you wrote sounded like a lot of stuff to get done. I understand feeling too overwhelmed and blah to even get started (because I do it so often).

I have been getting odds and ends done but the house is seriously trashed. I haven't seen a dirty-dish free counter for weeks now. Not sure how it is already five minutes before I have to leave for work.

Feeling kind of like a failure so far today. I cleaned out the hall pretty thoroughly, just in terms of clutter and stuff being where it shouldn't, not to the sweeping/washing floor level. I started to do the kitchen and kind of lost interest. I haven't accomplished much today

I did get some serious cleaning in this weekend. I found something awful the cat had left in the bedroom a couple of weeks ago, buried under some dirty laundry. That triggered a pretty massive bedroom overhaul. I'd had some stuff piled on a table for months, including winter clothes I never finished getting ready for storage! I cleared all surfaces and vacuumed everything in there. I also hand washed all the throw rugs. It's a lot nicer to sit up here. In fact, just typing this up and remembering how awful it was before vs. what it looks like now is giving me motivation to pick up the crap I've left on the floor and on the tables since Saturday...

Okay, that's done - but now I remember that trash pick up is tomorrow and I have two half full bags. I wonder if I can find stuff to get rid of before then? I am losing my enthusiasm...

I'm sorry you have boxes of your mother's things

I created a disaster in the kitchen. Did one load of dishes, but I have very little to show for the hours I've been awake so far... what an awful cycle this is. I am overwhelmed by everything there is to do, so I wind up not doing anything, which feels me with self-loathing, which makes it harder to take corrective steps!

I feel like I used to not be like this. It used to be easier to work towards a long term goal. I am not sure what happened or when.

Well, my friend came over and did the big bathroom repair job I paid him to do. It's a weight off my mind. It was causing so much anxiety and stress ; I was worried we'd be evicted if the building manager ever caught sight of it. But it was so stressful and tiring to have someone over, even a good friend who understands my limitations. Hopefully I'll be able to tackle some of big decluttering and cleaning jobs on my own now. But going to take it in small bite sized pieces. I have this habit of knocking myself out doing a big all day task and then burning out and not doing anything else for months.

Last week I deep cleaned the living room, kitchen and bathroom. I always feel so much better when those are clean. Now I'm trying to find the motivation to clean the bedroom. Had it cleaned a few weeks ago, but my husband messed it up again.

I fell off my Saturday housecleaning wagon big-time. It's 2:30pm and I'm still in my pj's watching TV. Sleeping Beauty is on. I am not 8 years old. Sigh.

We didn't get nearly what we could have gotten done and I'm so upset! A huge thing that should have gone straight into storage didn't because I stupidly stupidly forgot! I'm so upset with myself! So upset!

I'm sick of being alone. All I do is lean on my stupid dented bed. That's all my little life is. I can't believe it's come to this. I can't believe this is my life.

ETA: oops, wrong thread. I can't even read now.

I am trying to clean up the house today. It's so annoying - I clean it and it just gets dirty again. I have done an okay job keeping the bedroom clean since the big cleaning a week or two ago, but the rest of the house is pretty trashed.

I want to get rid of things so I can find what I need when I need it. We've run into multiple situations lately where we can't find X and go out and buy another or spend 30 minutes looking before giving up.
