Thinking about getting a tattoo on my left forearm to hide the marks and scarring. Luckily my marks are mostly thin and long, so it wouldnt be that hard to work around.

What does anyone think of this concept? I would be planning for a few months on what I wanted (at this point I am considering either a crescent moon or a tree!

for me, this would be my first tattoo, and most likely my only one. Both the crescent moon and tree have deeper meaning for me, so it would be something i could reflect on.

I think that overcoming those scars would be... triumphant. And I mean, yes, they were my fault but there is no reason I should have to endure humiliation or embarassment over them when I go out, if I could have something motivating.

I think it's a great idea. I've seen pictures of people who have gotten them to cover up large back surgery scars and to decorate their chest wall after having mastectomies instead of getting implants.

One warning, though, it hurts more to have a tattoo done over scar tissue than over virgin skin. That's what my tattoo artist told me when I went in for a touch up and I mentioned that it stung more than during the original work. It was still bearable though, plus there's more tissue on your forearm than on a shoulder blade to absorb the impact of the needles.

How about a Tree of Life and a crescent moon?

Nah, get some Scarzone and other scar products. Tattoo will just scar it up more and make things worse. People will not trust or look up to you as much either.

I've gotten a tattoo for this exact reason.. and I love mine. It worked wonders on covering the scars. However, as a word of caution.. sometimes getting the tattoo can be triggering. The pain is very similar to cutting.. I found myself wanting to get all sorts of tattoos as a substitution for cutting... which really, is only a way of leaving prettier scars. I love my tattoos...but have to be very careful.

I say go for it if its what you really want and you know you like the tattoo. I'm also going to do the same when i get back home from school so i'm glad you asked this question.
