I haven't posted here in a long time...I find it difficult to do so...but I do read often and wish that posting would come more easily.

I have a question regarding SH. I have social anxiety disorder and also SH. I'm not in therapy, but recently I signed up for a group "Social Confidence and Self Esteem" workshop that starts around the beginning of November (If I don't cancel from sheer nervousness beforehand, that is). My question is regarding the SH. Some of my scars are difficult/impossible to cover up, and I am wondering what sort of reaction I should expect from the group leader (who is a Ph.D, registered psychologist). I'm hoping that he simply doesn't make the association, but not counting on it, considering that he is probably trained to recognize such things. I've never been in therapy (exepting one session in which things didn't really get off the ground) so I'm unsure of exactly what to expect. Any replies/advice would be greatly appreciated!

hugs to all,
Robin

((((_embrace)))))

Good for you for signing up for that type of class! That takes a lot of sheer will power to do. Haven't posted in a long time...question? (Maybe triggering...)

About your question - you can either hope he doesn't see them, or how about wearing long sleeves? I know here in Ontario that the weather is getting a bit colder day-to-day so I'm assuming it might start being colder on the East coast soon? Makeup might work too. Personally, I'd try to hide it with sleeves, and if it was noticed to talk to them about it. They can help and might be able to suggest a therapist who would be able to help you stop self-harming or give you other coping mechanisms.

((((hugs)))) Take care of yourself and PM me anytime.

I attend groups from time to time and I have a couple visable scars.

as long as you have no fresh cuts visable and you are not being seen by this professional for individual therapy sessions there is nothing the professional can do. she/he cannot even bring it up to you during or after group. you on the other hand can if you want to bring it up at any point.

Thank you for your replies, I definitely feel a little better about it. Obviously still rather terrified, but maybe it's do-able. =)

I think you are very brave for going to the group. I think the therapist will be professional and not address it at all unless you initiate it. I hope the group goes wonderfullly.
