to feel good about being back in "the swing of things"?

and you wanted to know if it was okay to enjoy this period?
no......i don't think so. i would work like hell to divert my attention to something else. find someone to talk to, take a walk, play a computer game....anything to keep from cutting.......good luck, pat........we care and hope that you'll keep posting. |

Hey
Yea I know exactly what you mean. I know we cannot use this forum for advocation of this and that would not be tolerated. But I want you to know, I'm struggling with this too. It often fills us with a great sense of comfort to revert to some old coping mechanism. I'm 31 and recently started cutting.....again.....it does feel good and that's the problem. This is a poor coping tool that we incorporated and it may have worked for us then, but we are far more intelligent now and know what this will lead to. I guess what I'm saying is that you're not alone in this sentiment, I feel it too. I (shamefully) enjoy it also- ppl don't understand. you and I are telling ourselves its ok to start again because the cuts aren't as bad as before or as deep etc, but it's self harm and we must fight like hell to find another outlet. arghhhhhhhh, I hate that I feel you on this. I feel you.... Try to be safe, as I try and know you are in company. |

guys-there IS a reason we don`t or did it don`t you think?
if you take care of the feeling and thought and case that`s casueing the action of cutting yourself it may HELP i know i had a buklet where i just cursed everyhting and everyone that made me mad-instead of cutting stabing, whatever. i think that when we want to cut-there is a REASON and by the way Talulah - i hitnk there is nothing to be ashaim of-certain people feel bad and they react in diferrent ways... i wrote a song about it.... and one of the most important things is to EXCEPT yourself the way you are. what`s CAUSING it??? self haterd? fear? panic? feeling as of you are "unreal" and need some pain to make things go back to earth?? i hope some will REACT to my question-becasue we need to take cae of that feeling that makes us DO it |

Yes, I have found that all behavior has a reason behind it. Identifying your feelings is important, as well as why you feel that way. Usually when feelings are really intense, there is more involved than just the current situation. There is probably some connection to what has happened in the past and how you have learned (or not learned) to handle similar situations. Once you can make that connection, and let yourself feel what you are feeling (writing about it often helps), it gets easier to manage the feelings.
