I've managed to go this long without pulling my hair once before, but this time it was right through the exams, I've got a Grade 8 violin exam coming up in two weeks, and I've still hardly been getting any urges. I'm quite proud of myself! Two months!

Just thought I'd share. Two months!

Thanks, Fuzzybear! And thanks for the good-luck wishes, too, I'll be needing them. Two months! The piano would be a hard instrument to play, I'm impressed! Two months!

Good job! Sounds like you are doing very well.

How long have you played the violin? I am trying to learn. I have had my violin for about four years, but never could get the D string to tune and stay tuned. I finally found someone who got it to work (I had taken it to a repair shop and they said that nothing was wrong with it), and I have been playing for about a week now. I can play "Twinkle." My daughter started playing the violin a couple of years ago, and she is impressed that I'm playing songs already. I also play flute, recorders, and a bit of piano. Somehow it doesn't surprise me to learn that you are a musician too. Two months!

Thanks, Rapunzel!

I've been playing the violin for about 10 years - since I was 7 years old. Wow, you play quite a few instruments! I play the keyboard as well, but I'm not that good at it. Good luck with learning the violin - it can be tricky, but it's great fun, and you can play a lot of different styles of music with it. Two months! About the tuning, did you ever keep your violin where it would get very hot or very cold? Extremes of temperature can send any string instrument out of tune (as I found out, when I kept my violin next to a radiator all night once... Two months!). That's interesting, I didn't realise it was so easy to recognise another musician! Two months!

The string was wrapped too close to the end of the peg, so the peg couldn't push in very well, and couldn't stay. I'm very happy to have that figured out, and now I can play quite a lot. I have almost worked through the first beginner's instruction book that my daughter used for her first year. She is impressed that I am learning so fast. My left arm gets so tired though.

So, how are you coming along with practicing for your exam? Still feeling okay about it?

Ah, ok. That's good you can play quite a lot, it does need quite a bit of practice! Your daughter is right to be impressed. Two months! Your arm should get less tired the more you play - I used to struggle to play tunes that were more than a page long, but one of my Grade 8 pieces is 5 pages and I manage fine now.

It's going ok, I think - one of the pieces I'm quite confident about, anyway, but the other two I'm not so sure...I still keep making mistakes. I've definitely got a bit of work to do before March 7th! But my teacher told me I should be fine, and I'm trying to believe her.
