I've really been struggling lately with the urge to cut. I'm unemployed and have a lot of stress in my life and I just want to be able to control something and let some of the anxiety out - cutting does that for me. But it's been months since I last cut and I really don't want to start again, but when I look at my arm it's all I can reallly think about & I can feel the relief I'd get.

Guess I could just use some encouragement that it won't solve anything long term.

I am so very sorry that you are feeling like this right now. Try to remember that this feeling is only temporary. Is there anything you can do to get your mind off of SIing. Maybe go to the library, volunteer, go on a walk? Also try making a pro and con list for cutting and not cutting. Keep posting very supportive people on here who do not judge.

hey splitimage,

congrats on going so long without cutting!

perhaps you could do something healthy instead - go for a long walk, go for a run or a swim? something which burns energy and helps you feel healthy and reduces frustration and anger too. or there could be other things too - perhaps chatting with somebody who reduces your stress when you talk with them - or the somebody could be a pet (don't expect them to chat back though really wanting to cut )

And you're right. It won't solve anything long-term. Think of the inconvenience and embarrassment cuts and scars can cause.

I hope you manage to find some way of resisting really wanting to cut
