My sister was deeply upset when the breastfeeding incident happened. Her baby was hungry, what was she supposed to do? I think it's awful it happened to her (and other people too).
I don't have any problem with it at all, and when I have a baby and he/she is hungry I will feed them. Its only natural.

I agree with the breastfeeding. What the heck else do you do when baby is screaming and you breast feed? Carry pumped milk in a bottle all the time? Then how do you heat it? Stick it under your armpit for 30 minutes? Tee hee!

Well, I'm not from a different country than you Gemstone-- so I can't say about other countries views-- but-- I respectfully beg to differ on the idea that the US is conservative on this subject...... my view is that, it is a country that labels women as a "sex thing" first and a human, second. That's why men can go topless here but not women-- IMO. Men aren't "sex things" they are regarded as human only and therefore their bodies aren't considered taboo or evil or sinful. (I think some other countries regard women as human first and then other things after that...... )
I wouldn't be surprised if we, as a country, have more strip clubs, prostitutes/pimps/customers, and more sex offenses committed against women and children than other countries- per capita, so I really don't believe it's because we are, in general, more conservative.... that is my opinion. In my view it's not the conservativeness, it's the respect for a female human that is a bit lacking. ![]() mandy... oh dear, I hope this all made sense... ![]() ![]() |

Gemstone, that is so freaking stupid--your sister breastfed, but had her breasts covered up (if I'm understanding right), and she got fined for indecency? That makes no sense. You not only need to be covered up in this country, but covered up the right way! Sheesh!
I agree, I don't think Jesus would have been offended by breastfeeding and nudity the way we are in the US. I will avoid the full discussion I could go into regarding religion on this issue, but as far as the suggestion about going to the Spirituality forum to debate whatever was to be debated, that forum doesn't allow for debating. I'm not offended by Rhapsody saying, "WWJD" is her philosophy...because she said it's her philosophy, rather than simply asking, "WWJD?" as if everyone should follow it. Thank you for that, Rhapsody. I was reminded of David Duchovny on the Tonight Show last night in reading this thread. His wife, Tea Leoni, when she was on, spoke of some amusing innocently sexual comments and events of her children, and then David just last night mentioned another. I thought it was funny, but it still made me wonder what their son is learning. Miller, their son, told a female guest at their home that she was hot, and the woman asked if he meant temperature-wise. She asked him what it meant when a person said it like that. I am sure she knew what he meant, but wondered what if he understood what "hot" meant, in that context. The boy replied, "It means you're sexy and your vagina looks good." When Janet Jackson's breast came out, everyone freaked out about it. I'm not saying it was appropriate, but why did she get so much heat over it, as opposed to Justin Timberlake? He got off almost entirely scot-free in the incident. And frankly, it was way overblown. It's just a breast...deal! But here's the other thing...I wasn't there, but I heard there were other musical groups there who grabbed their crotches during their music, so why wasn't that criticized? That seems more sexual to me than a breast popping out.

Thanks for responding Mandy. I think you made perfect sense. I'll have to give this some more thought.

You got it right Maven. She was covered. She actually drove to the back of the parking lot to do it also so people would be less likely to see. This is what made the officer suspicious of her and come over to the car. If it had been me I would have hired a lawyer and fought it. I told her thats what she should have done, but she was humiliated. She just paid the fine and didn't leave the house with the baby again until she was done breastfeeding.

And the Janet Jackson thing was so stupid. People made such a big deal out of it. I got really tired of hearing about it after a while.

I can't believe your sister had to hold herself hostage in her house until her baby was done breast feeding. That's horrible!!!!

I'm thankful there are people fighting for women's right to publicly breastfeed (and without covering up).
I find it offensive when stores, offices or wherever expect a woman to go into a bathroom or even a cellar to breastfeed her baby. Some people argue, "Urinating is natural, too, but you don't hear people wanting that legalized in public!" What a dumb argument. Breastfeeding doesn't threaten others' health or the environment. Jeesh!
