Hi,

What are the best drugs for insomnia? I'm currently on Trazodone which is no longer working, I have tried Zopiclone which doesn't work. The only drug that seems to work for me is Diazepam but I can't take that very night, I really don't want to end up addicted. On the occasions I have taken Diazepam for several consecutive nights they no longer work either.

I only sleep for 3 - 5 hours a night, even then I often wake up every 30 minutes or so. Lack of sleep really affects my mental health, I end up feeling more depressed and experience high levels of anxiety. Any ideas? .. thanks.

I have noooo idea on any of the drugs, but I do know a lot of ways to help cure insomnia naturally. (I personally am against *all* psych meds, but that's just me.) If you want some tips, feel free to PM me, or if you want, I'll put them on the thread.

I dunno about drugs but I heard that Chamomile Tea helps. I know from experience that it does, I was overly-hyper one night and took it without realizing what the effects were and about a half an hour later I was out. Plus it's natural and has other health benefits as well

I take OTC stuff like Unisom, or a couple mg of melatonin. The melatonin usually works for me, but for the nights when I'm more wired/anxious, I take Unisom. That knocks me out pretty well, but sometimes leaves me a bit groggy when I wake up in the morning.

Of course, check with your dr to make sure the OTC stuff won't interact negatively with your prescription medication(s). I take Lexapro and I haven't had any problems.

Hope this helps!

Try Melatonin. It is a herbal supplement that comes in 3mg, 5mg, and 10mg. The best place to get it is:

http://www.puritan.com/melatonin-542...=1&sortOrder=2

You buy 2, and get 3 bottles free. Shipping is $4.95 and you get it in 2-3 days by fedex or ups. It really helps me to sleep through the night. Hope this helps

Do any of you know if an anti-depressant would work better? Apparently I'm suffering from major depression and very high anxiety, which I kind of knew already but was probably in denial.
I really can't go on with so little sleep, I feel depressed because of it, life just seems like one big black cloud because I'm so exhausted and sleep deprived. I've tried melatonin and zolpidem (Ambien), I can see how Michael Jackson ended up using anesthetics to sleep, I really can.

I've been on just about everything, Trazodone, Rozeram, Ambien, Lunesta, Clonazapam, seroquel, etc.

Some helped more than others, I really got to sleep quick with seroquel but it gave me vivid crazy dreams. I've recently been put on Temazepam. It helps me fall asleep but it doesn't help me stay asleep all night.
One doc told me to buy melantonin from the store. Haven't tried that yet though.
I really like using aromatherapy to relax. Also drinking hot decaff tea b4 bed. I know what it feels like when lack of sleep wrecks havoc on your body and mind.
Mild exercise and stretching earlier in the day tends to help me fall asleep better at night.
Hope you find something that works for you.

Maybe you should try to focus on your sleep hygiene. Do you do other things in bed than sleeping? Try to avoid it, because this causes problems falling asleep in some.

Try to turn off all electric applicances in your room. You might be sensitive to electrosmog.

Alpha-meditation, or rainbow meditation technique helps one to relax.

Examine what are you eating. No heavy foods prior going to bed. On the other side a banana may help with falling asleep.

Sleep in maximum darkness you can achieve. Curtains, turning off all lights and all.
