What if you dream about the most unspeakable things you can imagine?

Been there, done that. It still happens occasionally. Do you have such nightmares, Lexaproman? If you do, then you have my sympathy. I wouldn't want anyone to dream such things.

Hi,
You don't speak about them!
The subconscious often uses shock tactics as waking agents. If you have a fever, ill, or taken some drugs or medicines, you need a moreshocking, violent and vivid dream to wake you up.

Yes I have these dreams far too often and they are not related to fever/ill, meds, etc. Although I appreciate that can happen.

I also like the advice to speak of them, which I do not do.

I put this out there because I just wanted to know I was not the only one. I realize there is probably nothing that can be done about it but it is bizarrely comforting to know it is likely related to my disorder.

Try writing about your dreams, everything you can remember about them. I found that this helps me deal with them.

I've been having them alot lately too. I feel as though my subconsious is telling me there is a problem I need to take care of, but I don't know what specifically it is as I have many problems and don't know which one I have to deal with.

Normally I would jump on that and maybe I will consider it if I run out of other ways of dealing with it, which at the moment the plan is enduring it.

But frankly these are so heinous I would not want anyone to know what kinds of things somehow pass through my mind. Not that you are suggesting sharing it with others per say. But the mere chance someone could read it is too much for me to consider.

I appreciate the comments though.

I too have been having horrific dreams since I started taking my medications. Some of my dreams are about things that I would never consider doing or even thinking of. Sometimes I dream of horrible things happening to people that are innocent. And it seems that no matter how much higher they put my dose that the dreams do not stop.

Kitty, maybe the meds are causing the dreams. Talk to your doctor about this. Maybe there's another med you can be put on. Some meds have the unfortunate side-effect of causing bad dreams, so talking to your doctor can't hurt.

Hi,
You are not alone in having these "unspeakable" dreams. Practically every human being has them, however they usually happen during deep sleep and most people can't remember them. These dreams are a necessary part of life and they do an important job in deep sleep. Some people wake up with the dreams, you must be one of those. Try to forget them. they don't mean a thing.
Some bad dreams are caused by medicines or drugs. Psychedelic drugs have the effect of clouding the brain and the person who takes them need vivid and violent dreams to wake them. My guess is that you have a slight sleep disorder and a sleep study would help you.

our dreams are an important part of our unconcious processes, the meaning is generally very personal to each individual. they can be exacerbated by medications, however it is still all our own "stuff" we need to deal with. often, the things in the dreams that seem literal are actually symbolic, but again - very personal to each person's own mind. i love to practice dream interpretation, if anyone wants to post details!

shadowghost002, it's actually a combination of the meds and just my normal messed up way of dreaming. I tell the doctor and he brushes that off because he's worried about the tactile and audio hallucinations. But thank you. For now, it's just a a roller coaster ride at night trying to figure out what my dreams are helping me work through or if they are just trying to scare the bejeezus out of me.

this is true. I think interpreting and talking about them helps. There is something causing these thoughts... there is a practice, you go in deep relaxation (alpha) and than "program" that you will have dreamless sleep... but I do not do it personally.

My dreams are "horrible" in the sense they are completelly stupid and random. But I know exactly where is all that coming from.

@kitty - it really sounds like we are talking about the same stuff in general. I mean that is what I am saying. I dream about the most unimaginable stuff that involves me or sometimes involves others. Often as you say totally innocent of anything. Many times children or helpless and defenseless people!

@ both of you. I cannot say this has been related to meds though.

some meds do cause horrific dreams. I too tend to assign meaning to the content, even tho the dream may be just a way of waking, changing levels of consciousness, etc. Writing about the dreams is a great idea, and you could tear the paper up subsequently to prevent worrying about the possibility of it's being read. Narrative therapy is a very popular way of getting worrisome thoughts "out" so to speak

Yes I thought about that as far as reading it and then discarding it, which I should have mentioned. But the irony is I don't need to read it right when it happens believe me I have total recall of it because it is too vivid and graphic. And frankly I don't want to recall it!

So writing it would only help me if I were going to compare it or analyze it so I am back to the I would have to save it for that purpose problem.

But your point is well taken and I understand that for some that helps.

I have vivid dreams all the time as well. When I first started having them I was very sick from the bp and did not know I had the disease. Now my dreams are really bad when I am having a relapse and not quite as bad when I am in remission.

Look at a description of the side effects of your medication, most psychotropic drugs cause vivid dreams.

Okay again I appreciate that valid point but I have had the same dreams all my life including long before I took any medication.
