Every one is different, my wife sleeps 4 hours thats all she needs for some reason, 10pm to 10am makes 12 hours sound not so bad , but is a bummer if you work.
Thanks for this!

Blood tests aren't the only way to investigate sleep issues which can be respiratory or neurological - I would recommend asking to be referred for sleep studies.
Thanks for this!

Your age might make a difference and whether you do this every night or just weekends, etc.

Establish another pattern if you want; set an alarm at first and make yourself get up after 10 hours to start and do routines that help with your being awake (juggle swords :-) or, if you have an emotional/mental problem, either work on it with someone or back off it a bit, etc.

You say that you sleep 12 hours a day and that you need it. You ask how you can stay awake more.

If you "need" the 12 hours of sleep, why do you want to stay awake more?
Thanks for this!

I have sleep apnea and have to sleep with a machine like box with hose and pressured air, i swear it helps with the nightmares, but I still do need about10-12 hours of sleep. The machine also helps in taking that tired feeling away throughout the day.

Have you tried caffeine? Coffee, tea etc. ? Gets a lot of people through. I know some people can't have caffeine or don't want to though but just a suggestion. Good luck and come back and tell us what works for you.

I also sleep 12-14 hours a day but have a few physical problems(diabetes 4 1) that contributes 2 my sleepiness. But were u aware there are a few psychological reasons 4 being a mattress warmerdepression being 1 of them.If u r suffering with depression than u would @ least have a valid excuse 4 sleeping that much.I'm going 2 try 2 start going 2 bed @ 12:00.pm(I'm on a disibility & don't work so I'm able 2 do this)& set my alarm 15 minutes earlier each week until I'm able 2 get up by 9 without being a grouchy old ogre,I figure a week between each 15 min.lessening would b sufficient enuf 4 your body 2 b accustomed 2 the less sleep,I'm going 2 try it anyway & it's maybe a suggestion 4 u,only you could set your own hours 2 go 2 bed that work 4 u...GOOD LUCK!!
Thanks for this!

Can you walk, outdoors or in a mall when weather is bad? Can you plant something and enjoy it? Just some random ideas. Make yourself a schedule that you could usually keep, something realistic, but something that would help get you up!!!! The best!
